Hi, This is just to let you know that I have set up a new mailing list <time-table-commit> which will record all the action on the svn. Okay not riveting stuff but it is there if anyone is interested - you can either subscribe (if you inbox has nothing better to do) or view the archives, which probably isn't much better than viewing the changes on line. graeme. |

If you have the database set up you will be alright, although if you want t= o do some testing for me ;) I'm sure that the database will change (in fact I know it will) which is why we really need to think about how a proper install wizard will work. cheers, graeme. Hi Graeme,
just a quick question. I have already created the DB using the original
time-table.sql. Do I need to recreate the DB using the new sql scripts?

Okay I have put together some code that will help with the initial set up o= f the database, It still needs more testing but it is there... Just a couple of points. The sql has been broken down into three files (functions.sql, tables.sql & grant.sql) these need to be in the same directory as the pwd from where you run the executable. You need a user with createuser rights. The program will then create the required users and groups. (If the users o= r groups already exist then the program will fail), although the code could b= e commented out (it's a real mess but you should be able to find it in MainWindow.cpp) Why the users and groups? This is really for later when access rights and proper users are created allowing one user (for example) to perform the creation of the basic data, another to actually generate the timetable and = a third to view the timetable. Again this will require much more discussion. As I said it kind of works but I would really appreciate it is someone (or more) volunteered to convert this into a proper install wizard. graeme. Hi all,
I have just done the fix (all very quick at the moment) to set up the
configuration file. I've not been able to test in on Windows yet, but if
anyone is getting problems with the configuration file then download and
compile the latest version of the code. Essentially if the program =
doesn't
have a title then it has a problem with the configuration file.
I'm going to look at a similar quick fix for the database, which will be =
the
next issue you will face. Having said that I have put the database =
structure
on the svn, it is in the sql folder, but again I haven't been able to =
test
it.
cheers,
graeme.

Hi,
I'm really glad that you have managed to compile it. For the next stage =
you
need to set up the config file. I have just added it to the SVN so you =
can
update to get the latest version (105). I've put the config file in the
Preferences directory, called CollegeTimetable.conf. For Linux you need =
to
move this to /home/<user name>/.config/time-table directory. I was just
playing around with Windows and realised that it needs to be on the =
registry
and so there is no easy fix to get that working.
What I will do as a quick fix is to add a menu item to install the
configuration file. Qt manages the where and how each item should be =
written
so that will suffice as a quick fix. But what we do need to do is =
consider
how this initialisation phase should be done in the long term.
graeme.

Hi, I'm really glad that you have managed to compile it. For the next stage you need to set up the config file. I have just added it to the SVN so you can update to get the latest version (105). I've put the config file in the Preferences directory, called CollegeTimetable.conf. For Linux you need to move this to /home/<user name>/.config/time-table directory. I was just playing around with Windows and realised that it needs to be on the registr= y and so there is no easy fix to get that working. What I will do as a quick fix is to add a menu item to install the configuration file. Qt manages the where and how each item should be writte= n so that will suffice as a quick fix. But what we do need to do is consider how this initialisation phase should be done in the long term. graeme. Hi Graeme, I had certain errors trying to download the code using subversion. They are: "Error PROPFIND request failed on /svnroot/time-table" and certain "405 Method Not Allowed" Later, I was trying to understand the reason and in the process used TortoiseSVN->Export option to download the code. Is that alright? I read the manual of TortoiseSVN and it did not appear that there would be any trouble to others because of my "Exporting". Right now, I see that TortoiseSVN->CheckOut is also working fine. I can't understand why I got the earlier mentioned problem. Anywya, that was my experience. Will try to compile the downloaded code and run it locally. bye Sarma --- graeme <fos...@gm...> wrote: > Greetings everyone, > > Firt of all sorry for not writing in a while. You will need to compile it so that it builds the pgsql plugins, otherwise when you try and link to establish a connection the driver will be missing. I agree with your sentiments however I've already done it, it was raining yesterday. The only issue is that the anonymous CVS is still not synchronised so we'll have to wait before we can grab it from there. That said all I have done is to create a main window with the ability to connect to the database via a menu item and then from another menu item display the control panel. There will certainly be extra things required for this window, this would be a good point to add a menu item to modify the preferences, I've not added a dialog to get the password to the database (basically because whilst this is still in development I don't want to have to go through a dialog before finding that something hasn't worked) That all said once it is there on the anonymous CVS I invite you all to add your thoughts on how it should evolve, after all I put the main window ther= e just so you can get it running even if you don't have the database set up. cheers, graeme. Graeme,
One suggestion, why don't we all discuss how it can be done instead of
you doing the code and we review it? We can use UML to model the problem,
hence we have documentation done at the same time as well.
Sincerely,
Calvin Lei

Indeed, I'm going to throw together a proper front page with a connection
menu item and from there the ability to open the administrative screens,
also from a menu. I should have it ready by early next week (or maybe over
the weekend?). However I'm still not certain what the status is with the CVS
on sourceforge.
Anyway I'll keep you all updated.
cheers,
graeme.

The widget can have a button to connect/disconnect from database.

Hi All, I have joined the group recently. I have been trying to access CVS for a couple of days. I was able to successfully SSH to shell.sourceforge.net but couldn't connect to cvs.sourceforge.net. I feel, I may be making some mistakes or not following the instructions properly. Will keep working on it and let you know what I have learnt - it may be helpful to others.
