Hi, let me explain further to see if I have it figured out. I did have the manual (that which is described on the tiki site as being 350 pages long) printed out and with me. > > > 1) How do I set it up so that the first page will ask people to > > register if they would like to do so? > > > > Login as admin, under Administration / login > > /tiki-admin.php?page=login > > > > Check "Users can register" This will add a link to a self registration > > page. > > >>> > > I believe I accomplished that. Maybe you could share what > the solution was? What I did is login and then on the left click on Admin click. Then I selected Login and that screen has a box to check called Users can register. After that I had a different browser open and just clicked on the home page for my web site. I did select Validate Users by email and remind users by email. I didn't choose challenge/response validation. > > > Then when I move my mouse over the menu area, the items seem to disappear. > > Perhaps I added items that had no content. That menu disappearing act > > does > > not occur when you link directly to the site without logging in. > > Mmm. I can't see this without logging it. But looks fine to me. It does now, yes. As well as these sites. Must have been a glitch. http://shs-alumni.net/ourTown/ - my high school alumni page http://wordsalad.net/writersHome/ a writer's community page connected with our poetry magazine Word Salad at http://wordsalad.net/ and http://nationwidesingles.us/myPlace/ - this was to make a job I had easier through using a CMS or TikiWiki a CMS and Wiki in one. More later on two of these. > > > > > > > 3) I'm not wanting anyone to design my site but some example startup > > site > > content would be good... > > > I have found that using wiki for a homepage gives easy design control. But > if your site is very news focused then Articles would make more sense. What exactly is a wiki versus a CMS. I know it's not a blog. The articles module is that News that the users or admins create or is it a place to include newsfeeds, in rss format or other formats? > > Also don't be afraid to create your own theme > http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=ThemesDoc > The Smarty template system gives a lot of control over how the pages look > and work. I'd suggest doing it through FTP rather than through the Tiki. What's the learning curve on Smarty like? Would one use Smarty to create themes that are uploaded via ftp or a combination smarty, php and html? >> > I think eventually there will be a new wave of political parties based on > transparent participatory democracy, co-operation, sustainability and the > needs of children. I agree with your ideas and in fact see them as having parallels in democaratic socialism, often a misunderstood concept. > > A major part of my business is using TikiWiki as a 'revolutionary' tool for > co-operative organizations that practice these kind of ideals. As I see it this is done through one creating more user groups and giving them permission to control different parts of the site, the administration, correct? But for example, suppose I setup the Blog and The Directory feature, can I have my users not admin these but still be able to create categories? And is it sections that allows one to have a way to group Blogs, image galleries and etc all in terms of a certain subject, theme, category? Thanks, Bruce > > |
