Hi, recently we have had problems with the Tiki search on some of our installations. The problem was that "garbage" results were appended to the real search results on some machines....on other machines everything was fine. ...after a long search, finally a solution. The problem turned out to be that the "garbage results" actually were valid search results. In the admin search panel the parameter: "Default content fields: " specifies by default: "contents, title". On some systems (all Windows in my tests) the default content fields are auto-included as search words....but on others not (or so it seems). The search for "obama" would therefore turn out to be a search for "obama OR contents OR title". The results lists the "obama" on top, but the "content" and "title" hits make up a long list of garbage hits. A search for "obama" should search only for that and not "obama OR contents OR title". Tiki specifies by default...."Default content fields: contents, title". I am not 100% sure about the intention of the "Default content fields", but leaving this blank as a default seems better. Note: If fixing up an existing system, the search index must be rebuilt after the update. I still don't have an explanation to why this only affected some machines. Btw. The problem affects Tiki 8, 9 and 10 (once it occurs on the machine), and the same fix works on all. I propose to remove the default value in the admin - search panel, thus "Default content fields: ". Arild |
