Because then you have templates full of StringIDs which are hard to read and write for programmers and the translator can't see the Sentence before and after the StringID to translate. And the variable evaluation is messy that way. I used that in one project, where the IDs were almost as large or larger as the text in some languages: MISC_ERR_DIALOG_TITLE="Fehler". It is ugly and hard to translate. I personally corrected some of the french and spanish translations (no, I don't speak spanish but even I could see that the translator did not see the context). > > Greetings Carsten > > Am Mittwoch, den 27.10.2010, 08:29 -0600 schrieb > ric...@ke...: >> And this is another example (throughout Tiki) that bugs me. >> >>> {tr 0=$count}There is %0 files{/tr} >>> And translating the string "There is %0 files" that avoid sometimes >>> breaking the string as: >>> {tr}There is{/tr}{$count}{tr}files{/tr} >> >> >> It should be >> >> {tr 0=$count}There {if ($count eq '1')}is %0 file{else}are %0 >> files{/if}{/tr}. >> >> But I'm afraid this would be a nightmare for translators. >> >> Should these be added as: >> >> {if $count eq '1'}{tr}There is 1 file{tr} >> {else}{tr 0=$count}There are %0 files{/tr}{/if}. >> >> >> instead?
