#22 Cannot read "10,000 BC" DVD

I'm unsure if this place is the right one to write this: Thoggen will not read the DVD "10,000 BC". This is NOT a deficiency because neither will both Totem Movie Players. Also, DVDRipper (on my Windows XP computer) cannot even BEGIN reading the DVD. However, the DVD will PLAY on my XP computer. I do not understand why the XP computer can and the Ubuntu computer cannot.

I'm guessing this is one of the newer copy-protection schemes (e.g. bad sectors on the disc, which a 'normal' menu-based DVD reader would never get to see because it accesses the disc differently than rippers which tend to rely on the info in the headers). If nothing else on linux plays it (using libdvdread), there's not much I can do in the short time to fix this.
