I'm assuming the crop function is supposed to show a preview when the bar is moved forward and backward. I've sat waiting for a preview to load (the beginning is merely black, no enough information to crop properly), but it never changes the preview image.
I am running Ubuntu, the Feisty Beta (up-to-date on patches as of yesterday), and Thoggen 0.6.0-2ubuntu1 package installed.
Other information:
:: GStreamer core version: 0.10.12.0
:: System: Linux jubuntu 2.6.20-14-generic #2 SMP Mon Apr 2 20:37:49 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
:: active drive now: 0x83ee640
GStreamer core 0.10.12
GStreamer base 0.10.12
GStreamer good 0.10.5
GStreamer ugly 0.10.5
Seems to rip fine however; I just don't want the black bars on widescreen rips included in my file.
This project definately has potential; I love the design and the functionality so far! Only recommendations besides the absent subtitling would be adding a quality control on the sound.
Keep up the good work! Just ask if you need any more info.

Yes, it is supposed to show a preview. It does (for me) with some DVDs, but not with others, and then it just always works on one computer of mine. Not sure when it broke exactly, but I think it's something in GStreamer (dvdreadsrc/dvddemux). Haven't had time to investigate yet.
What do you mean by 'adding a quality control on the sound'?

Well, right now it appears to default to 128 kbps vorbis audio; would it be possible to perhaps change this? Even a quality # (like you have for video) would work alright; that's what FLAC does right now, you pick a # from 1-8.
Anyways, glad to know I'm not the only one with the difficulty. I'm ripping only the stuff that doesn't need cropping at the moment; let me know when you figure out whats going on.

I also have this problem. The cropping function displays no preview, however the application shows a preview whilst it is actually ripping the content.
I have Kubuntu Feisty.

I think this problem has been fixed in gst-plugins-ugly CVS (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438610\)
Could anyone confirm that this fixes it for them too?

Dear Tim,
How do I install the new ugly package on Ubuntu Feisty? Can I download it from somewhere?
Thanks,
Tom

I'm afraid there is no ready-made package to install at the moment. It's probably not too hard to create one from the current debian package + the patch if you know how, but I really don't know off the top of my head, sorry.
