Ahh OK this is very interesting for 2 reasons: 1.) I didn't know that it's possible to add commands within the configuration files. 2.) When using lpadmin, did you see the printer in firefoxes print dialogue? I was never able to see any printer there, I thought firefox is not linked against cups ... Your suggestion didn't work for me. Here are the steps I took: > • Copy /etc/cups/ directory and files to ~/cups.old > • Install working printer via the cups interface on the thinstation client > • Diff ~/cups.old with /etc/cups (the only difference was a file called "printers.conf" > • Reboot the thinstation client (clean slate) > • Add "printers.conf" back into /etc/cups/ > At this point I checked to see if the printer was available to firefox. It wasn't, so I tried "/etc/init.d/cups restart" and "/etc/init.d/cups stop && /etc/init.d/cups start". No dice; the printer still doesn't show up in firefox. > > John Bulcher > Computer Programmer > EBS Executive Business Services, LLC > 1891 Goodyear Ave, Suite 618 > Ventura, CA 93003 > 866-767-3238 x308 > > the NALA (thenala.com) > Starkart (starkart.net) > > > On Thu, Feb 6, 2014 at 7:36 AM, Don Cupp <don...@ya...> wrote: > Coolio. I use cups, start my thinstation and configure the printer using http://localhost:631. Then I create a new package from /etc/cups (.pkg in fact is a .tar.gz-Archive). If you can configure CUPS manually, you can save the configuration file(s) into a custom package and rebuild it into your image so it always starts back up. The CUPS configuration is complicated enough that I haven't ever tried mimicking the lprng initialization. > > It's also possible that you just need to figure out the magic option to configure your printer for lprng. > > > > > > On Wed, Feb 5, 2014 at 7:06 PM, John Bulcher <jbu...@st...> wrote: > > What do you use in it's place, Michael? I only have one requirement: get the thinstations to boot with a network printer ready to print. I even have a linux server with a samba share that can serve the printer to the thinclients, if I need to. I just need to get the thin clients to print. > > > > John Bulcher > > Computer Programmer > > EBS Executive Business Services, LLC > > 1891 Goodyear Ave, Suite 618 > > Ventura, CA 93003 > > 866-767-3238 x308 > > > > the NALA (thenala.com) > > Starkart (starkart.net) > > > > > > On Wed, Feb 5, 2014 at 4:45 PM, Michael K <ts....@gm...> wrote: > > cups won't autodetect a network printer.
