Added NET_DHCP_DELAY=30 to thinstation.conf.buildtime and no change whatsoever. Boot finishes from unpacking initramfs to icewm desktop in less than 10 seconds. I still see 127.0.0.1 in the log. Changed to static IP in thinstation.conf.buildtime and still no change. Added some echo_log commands to network_files. At boot time they show that the /var/log/net directory is populated correctly. NET_DEVICE=eth0 properly. But when I do "ifconfig -a" it shows that eth0 is up but has no IP address assigned.
