One of the things (multiple actually) that was lost when we 'lost' our
old wiki was a couple of different descriptions on how to produce an
image that works with bootsplash (http://bootsplash.org).

We use bootsplash for the boot splash and it is very particular on the
format of the image. From memory, if using gimp, make sure that the
image is flattened (no layers) and that it is saved as 16bpp (as below).
