From the FAQ:

Configuring Thinstation
Any client configuration is done in a thinstation.conf file. It is
possible to have multiple thinstation.confs but they are all just copies
or subsets (!) of thinstation.conf.example.
* thinstation.conf.buildtime is the one with hardwired configuration.
If no more config files is found, this one rules. This is the important
file for booting off local media.
* thinstation.conf.network is the default config file on the TFTPD in
the TFTPD root directory. Overrules thinstation.conf.buildtime.
* thinstation.conf.<group-id> is a unique config file for a group of
PCs (e.g. all those with printers or all those with large screens.
Overrules thinstation.conf.network. Requires that you make a
thinstation.hosts file that map MAC-addresses with host names.
* thinstation.conf-hostname is a unique config file for the PC <host
name>. Overrules thinstation.conf.network and thinstation.conf.<group-id>.
Requires that you make a thinstation.hosts file that map MAC-addresses
with host names.
* thinstation.conf-<IP number> is a unique config file for the PC with
the <IP number>. Overrules everything above.
* thinstation.conf-<MAC address> is a unique config file for the PC
with the <MAC address>. Overrules everything above.
* thinstation.conf.user is the config file for a PC read off a local
media. Requires CUSTOM_CONFIG and STORAGE_PATH to be set correctly in
thinstation.conf.buildtime.
Beware you can't add features in a thinstation.conf not already build into
the image (pre-built or defined by your own build by build.conf)!
