I am posting this here because I looked through the project
files and didn't see any mention of this issue. Since reading
this, I have decided to hold off on using themechanger until I
either get a response form you or find an acceptable answer
elsewhere. so I don't know if there is any validity to this
problem, I am just passing the word on; obviously it's not in
my interest to test this out on my system. the author's
comments are a little confusing so I'm not even going to try
and follow his 'workaround.' if this report is in error, you
might want to tell him...

"12/11/2003 - Problems with ThemeChanger hosing the
Finder
"I've heard many reports that ThemeChanger has 'nuked' the
Finder.app, making it impossible to launch. I've never had
these problems until today when I tried installing
SmoothStripes 4 on my brothers computer. It was a fresh
install of ThemeChanger 0.6.1 and it nuked the Finder. The
problem does not lie with my themes, it's a problem with
ThemeChanger.
"What it does is that it replaces the Finders English
Localized.rsrc with an older one. To prevent this from
happening, launch ThemeChanger and choose "Remove Aqua
Backup".
"That will do it. After that you can safely apply my themes.
"Optionally, you can tell ThemeChanger to make a new
backup from my Aqua Restore theme. I have updated the
restore theme to include the English Localized.rsrc, so that
you have a chance to restore your Finder without reinstalling
OS X.
"I hope the authors of ThemeChanger will fix this problem
ASAP...!"

Yes, the lastest version of ThemeChanger nuked my finder as well.
I wasn't aware of the Finders English Localized.rsrc being replaced
with an older inferior one, but all the same, I just finished
reinstalling Panther (yeah I know, I could have just repaired it
using the installation discs...I'm an idiot sometimes). I'm not sure
enough of myself to try ThemeChanger again, even with the
workaround, until the Finder problem is fixed, so I'll still tell
people at Versiontracker to try it out, only so long as they don't
have Panther. To the credit of the programers, ThemeChanger did
warn me that I might have problems if I proceeded, which I
heedlessly ignored. Shame on me.
