For those interested in the project, here are some details about the game:
Programming Language: C++
Planning for the game to be RPG style.
1-player mode, although a 2+-player mode (locally; not on network) is considerable. Not sure about an online mode. I'd rather keep it mainly local, but may consider an online side-game or something.
2D Graphics.
Next, as you can guess from reading the project details, I am planning to use open source mascots/characters as main playable characters. The list of characters may change, as some, if not all, of the characters/mascots are copyrighted, and if I do not come to an agreement with the terms of a copyright holder, then we will not use his or her respective character.
Tux the Penguin as the main character,
Hexley,
Beastie, the FreeBSD Daemon.
Wilber,
I would also like to have atleast one female character; perhaps Penny, Gown, or both?
It has gotten a bit late as I write this. I shall return and add more details later.
Thanks,
C.

Plot/Story: (Spoiler warning) The game should start at Tux's house, in the south pole. Tux is just acting as if it is another normal day, eventually takes a step outside and sees a couple of strange beings. The beings appearance are similar to that of those small, beige computers that sit on their side, often used in desktop environments, with a monitor attached at the head. They claim to work for some believed-to-be-omnipowerful being, and are posing a threat to freedom in the game world. Tux realizes that he must do something to stop this, and enters combat with the two beings. (I'm planning to make them fairly easy to beat, as they may be more of a tutorial of how the fighting system works). After winning, the beaten beings retreat to safety. Next, Tux will travel a bit through the South Pole (perhaps adding Penny/Gown to his team along the way) and the player will learn about the basic game functions, such as jumping and moving around. When the time comes to leave the South Pole to help rid the rest of the world of these beings, I was thinking of adding an item to the game (Tray of Ice Cubes, maybe) that would allow the penguins to handle the temperatures. Mainly, just keep it with you and it will do the trick.
I shall return later to add more details.
Thanks for reading.

Actually, it occured to me that maybe it would be a good idea to give the main outline of the games worlds, and then fill it in from there.
So…
First world would be Antartica, as described above.
Second world: Large city, with the BSD Daemon being a big shot in it, if I obtain permission; otherwise, Hexley shall take his place.
Third world: Jungle, don't know why, but for some reason I like the idea of Hexley having a jungle town; if we the BSD Daemon as described above, then I Hexley will be used here. Otherwise, we might have to find another to replace him.
Fourth world: small village, forested area. This will be where Wilbur the GIMP logo joins the crowd, provided we get permission.
As this is just a plan, it may change, so there may be more/less/other worlds.
Final world: This will be where the final boss fight will be. Due to the nature of the game, perhaps it should be a metal castle.

Typo alert!
"if we the BSD Daemon as described above, then I Hexley will be used here. Otherwise, we might have to find another to replace him. "
should read as
"if we the use the BSD Daemon as described above, then Hexley will be used here. Otherwise, we might have to find another to replace him. "
Sorry about that, folks.
