It was suggested to me that a lot of programmers prefer to have the line numbers displayed in a left-hand column, right next to the text area. This makes it even easier to track individual lines. By making this an option in the preferences, people who don't find this valuable can turn it off.

Line numbers are now displayed for files using the JSyntaxPane-style syntax highlighting.
