Accented characters and US Int'l keyboard

I just started using this program (literally, typing my first citation into it) and I seem to have hit a snag.  I am using a standard US keyboard, set up as US-International via regional and language preferences in WinXP Home.  Usually, if I want to type "é" for example, all I have to do is type ' and then e and it will automatically add the accent.  It seems to be working in other programs (word, firefox, notepad++) but when I try to type in TextCite I end up with 'e.

Do you know if this is a problem with TextCite, or should I try to tweak my system?

A very promising concept, by the way.  I wish I had found it at the start of my PhD rather than the end!

This sounds like an issue with Java and the international keyboard.  I use the Spanish keyboard layout (es_ES) and have no problem.

TextCite uses only standard Java text components, so the likelihood is that the issue is with Java, not TextCite.  You might try updating to the latest version of the JDK/JRE, and if that doesn't work, ask on the Java forums to see if others have had the same issue.

      Good luck!

I've already got the newest Java version (1.6.0_03), so that doesn't explain it.  Can you recommend a good forum for someone with no programming skills to ask about it in?

The accented characters are working in other Java programs, by the way (JabRef and JEdit).

That's really odd... if Jedit and Jabref are working, then it's something else, not Java.  Can you try using a different keyboard layout?  For instance, the Spanish (Spain) layout (es_ES) puts the accent character in the same place as the US International.  Try it out and let me know.

        Cheers,
        Erik

      Hi-

I forgot to follow up and tell you that it seems to have resolved itself.  I have strange issues with Windows "forgetting" which language and keyboard it is set up to use, so it must have been related to that.  It seems to be working now, though.

      Thanks for your help.
