Hi. You should have a pop up telling people they need to install miktex or something similar at start up so it gets more like a "plug and play" feeling. Now if you press compile without any tex behind, nothing happens. You will only get an error message afetr you've chosen latex as a command.

which version are you using? Since 2.8.6 there is a basic notification if first compilation after installing fails.
