When there is any formatting in and of the cells in the first column (I tried \textbf{} and \textit{}), running LaTeX -> Manipulate Tables -> Align Columns hangs the whole program.
MWE:

\begin{tabular}{lc}
    foo & bar \\
    \textbf{lorem} & ipsum
\end{tabular}
