Hey there,

first off, thanks for making such a great editor!
Then, i hate to say but this
https://sourceforge.net/p/texstudio/bugs/1922/
is actually not fixed. I have a document with several subfiles, and can't reasonably search in the preview. I randomly mess up the tex in random files, when typing there. It also happends with the demo files in the linked bug.

I have a windows 7 machine and
TeXstudio 2.12.6 (hg 6632:7777b2b8a906)
Using Qt Version 5.9.1, compiled with Qt 5.9.1 R

Would be awesome if the search worked.

Thanks!

The example from [bugs:#1922] works here. Please provide an exact description how to invoke the behavior.

Alright, i think i got it. It happens, when the open/focused tex document is switched by the search.

    • from the clear folder with the three files
    • double click document a.tex to open
    • only texfile A.tex is open
    • hit f6 to compile
    • hit f7 to view
    • click into pdf viewer
    • press "ctrl + f" to search
    • your cursor is now in the search box of the pdf file
    • hit key "a"
    • your cursor is now in the texfile "B.tex" at the word "Random" (not precisely at the a but, close enough)
    • however, if the focus already is on open texfile B.tex, this will not happen, when you search "a" in the pdf viewer.

I can follow your description up to the last but one bullet point.

Then it gets a little cloudy.

    • your cursor is now in the texfile "B.tex" at the word "Random" (not precisely at the a but, close enough)

    From then on I did:

    • Clear the search panel
    • Switch focus to "B.tex" and back to the viewer
    • press "ctrl + f" to search
    • your cursor is now in the search box of the pdf file
    • hit key "a"
    • your cursor is now in the texfile "B.tex" at the word "Random" (not precisely at the a but, close enough)*

Note: all searches done here reposition the cursor in the document but do not switch the focus from the search field to the file.

It seems to be a little cloudy, unfortunately. Today the behavior is different. The cursor is not lost on pressing the first button, but at some point of random typing/backspacing in the search window.

    It's three steps.

    1. Open document A.
    2. Type something that can be found somewhere
    3. At some point the cursor jumps into the related file (see the "unsaved changes" icon from overwriting text with seach expressions, in the attachments)

Sorry, I can't tell what it depends on.

(And, yes, the focus does get switched - that's the problem.)

By the way, I have the same behavior on a windows 10 machine, (in the same version of TXS).
