#20 Intersting hit detection idea.........

Why not add per pixel hit detection like in Doom 3. Now, I'm not
saying there should be head shots and the like, or ragdoll effects
that make the enemies fall to the floor every shot, that just
wouldn't be Quake now would it. But why not have it so it can be
used in the death animations. Like when an enemy is near death,
you could do something, like say, shoot off their arm right at the
point where you shot, they'd grab the stub, blood starts gushing
and squirting, then they fall over and die. Shoot a rocket at an
enforcer and have all his body parts fly all over the place, not just
gibs that get reused on other enemies. Have your shotgun blast
rip right through a grunt chest and have what left of his internal
organs splattered all over the wall and floor. Shoot a Shambler in
the head with a grenade when he is just about dead and then
have bones sticky out and blood spewing everywhere. This with
"ragdoll" like effects would make Quake a real interesting game
to play, again. More ideas in the future. ( ya, it does sound gory
but that's quake)

    Please note, what you're asking for would require an
    extensive amount of remodeling and all sorts of insane
    particle effect scripting. It's just too much for a small team of
    open-source programmers to do.

    also, thats not really per-poly hit detection, now, is it? thats
    model deformations... not even attempted by Valve, or iD...
    Doom 3's per-Poly hit-detection is simply they can see when
    a rocket would hit you nose, or miss it, rather than innacurate
    hit-box intersection detection. Note that this has been done
    by Sylphis, so a quick look at that code, and you should be
    able to hack it in somewhere...

    This is rediculous, it would require remaking all of the
    models and actually adding content other then
    retextured/remodeled stuff. I think too many people like the
    origional game how it is/was and that graphics changes and
    improvements should be kept to strictly. Although prer-poly
    hit detection would be an excellent idea.
