It is straightforward for the client to also directly fetch
pages from the web if an HTTP connection is available.
There is actually full support for this, and it can be
toggled by changing the field:
tek.client.proxy.proxyutils.ProxyConstants.USE_DIRECT_C
ONNECTION
Before there were some issues with display speed (the
web was slower going through the proxy) but this might
have bene resolved since we last tested it. The
advantage would be that if someone periodically
connects, the TEK Client could cache all pages that
they visit for future searching in the local cache.
However, we need to make it clear to the user when the
client is operating in "offline" mode vs "online" mode,
where it might actually access a web connection. On
the first version, we decided to be purely offline to be
clear to the users, but it could be interesting to go into
a mixed mode (a user actually suggested this.)
