The content model for monogr currently requires use of one of the following as its first child:

author | editor | respStmt

However, the example includes none of these:

    I think you may be misreading the current (admittedly complex) content model: it does permit omission of author|editor|respStmt as its first child -- it has to, else the examples would not validate!

    But I agree that an attributed book example would be useful, and have added one at rev 5814
