As promised for the end of the week I am now unfreezing the Tcllib CVS again. BTW, step 3 usually happens as soon as I see the announcement on c.l.t, Freshmeat, or one of a couple other places. I also have a cron job that polls each project homepage on a rotating basis to see if the Last-Modified: date has changed; whenever one does I check it by hand. Finally, if I miss something, you can always email me. There's no automated submission form for the Gutter yet, but the current system seems to work reasonably well for now. (I didn't want to ask package authors to do any extra work when making a release, and I read c.l.t every day anyway, so ...) --Joe English |

Yes. However I would like to avoid the branch, at least for a while. End of the week seemed reasonable, then unfreeze and from then on any bloopers then have to be fixed in a short-lived branch. > As 1.9 is an official release now rather than a > RC, such a re-release should become 1.9.1 anyways. True, that does'nt mean however that it has to be on a branch. Could be on the trunk as well. And for a bit I would like to keep that option open. - Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

As 1.9 is an official release now rather than a RC, such a re-release should become 1.9.1 anyways. cu Reinhard |

tcllib is a Tcl-only library of standard routines for Tcl (no compiling required). This release is a minor version change which fixes numerous bugs and provides enhancements as well. Tcllib 1.9 release notes ======================== Hello World, welcome to Tcllib 1.9. This release is a minor version change which fixes numerous bugs and provides enhancements as well, to existing modules, and via newly added modules. Availability ------------ The released distributions can be downloaded from <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12883&package_id=24585&re lease_id=452661> Available are gzipped, zipped, and bzipped tarballs, and a starkit. Installation ------------ * For the starkit and starpack just execute the file and a GUI based installer will pop up. Fill out the paths, then run the installation. * For the tarballs unpack them in some directory /foo, then run the file "/foo/installer.tcl". This will invoke the same installer used in the starkit and starpack. Note: While the installer will open up a GUI by default (and if possible), a command line based installation is provided too. Run the installer with the option "-help" to see what is available. After the recent spat of last-minute fixes to either package code, or testsuites I am now freezing the CVS. Please do not do any commits anymore until I unfreeze the CVS. If you have important patches you wish to have put into the 1.9 release you have to send them directly to me for evaluation. The address is <mailto:and...@us...> I plan to tag the CVS this evening, around 7pm PDT aka [clock format 1159927200]. I plan to also generate the distribution archives, put them into the SF Files section, prepare the announcement, etc. at that time. The announcement itself would then go out tomorrow. -- Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

(Please ignore my first attempt at tagging, where I erred and tagged the wrong files.) Please do a checkout of that release to make sure that I did not mess anything else up. I removed them from my version a long time ago. I say get rid of them and just let it be a directory you unzip into place. Until there's an "official" delivery method for Tcl-only extensions, that's as good as any. As of 8.5, everything will most likely just be shipped as Tcl Modules. Damon J. Best practice for pure-Tcl packages is to distribute them in a form that can just be unpacked and used in-place, e.g., a tarball that contains: bwidget-X.Y/pkgIndex.tcl bwidget-X.Y/init.tcl ... etc. --Joe English jen...@fl... |

Was there ever a standard defined for Tcl-only extensions? Do we need the whole configure && make && make install system? We certainly don't need the whole configure script that's part of the TEA. Make sure there aren't any low-hanging fruit? I have cleared out a number of patches and fixed the easy bugs. One problem remains: what to do about BWidget's broken build system. Specifically, its aclocal.m4 tries to include (the non-existant) config/tcl.m4. How do I make BWidget more TEA-aware? Comparing against recent ActiveTcl release > > Is that part necessary when creating a release newer than is > present in the latest ActiveTcl? > Hi Larry, The few times that I prepared a Bwidget release was in response to an ActiveTcl release. They grabbed CVS Head, which had a lot of bug fixes and improvements, and called it 1.6 or 1.7. My part of the release engineering was really playing catch-up with ActiveTcl. I wasn't so proactive as to actually do the release in time for the ActiveState folks to pick up a fresh new version. If we're ahead of the 8-ball with Bwidget 1.8, then I would presume that the ActiveState folks would grab that release instead of CVS HEAD. I can't comment on ActiveState's release schedule. And I haven't been looking at Bwidget developer activity. So I don't have an opinion on whether the timing would make any difference. But I would like to have Bwidget 1.8 released on Sourceforge match ActiveTcl's Bwidget 1.8. Bob - -- Bob Techentin tec...@ma...
