Hello all, I have a problem with the CVS repository: I committed the "diagrams" package (in Tklib) in july and when I wanted to check it out today on a different machine, it was missing altogether. I had seen a similar problem with another project, but this time the solution I had found before does not work: rename the directory with the sources, create a new one by the same name, check that in and check in the sources The message I get is: cvs add: draw_anchor.tcl added independently by second party cvs add: draw_chemical.tcl added independently by second party cvs add: draw_circle.tcl added independently by second party cvs add: draw_fraction.tcl added independently by second party cvs add: draw_heater.tcl added independently by second party (hm, I should perhaps use a completely fresh CVS tree) Can anyone help me with this? Changing this is indeed true, the patch I've sended do this if you're coping a local file in fact in that case ftp(inline) will be setted to 0 and you'll do this: if {$ftp(inline) == 0} { # File transfer set ftp(PutData) "" if { ![file exists $source] } { DisplayMsg $s "File \"$source\" not exist" error return 0 } if { $dest == "" } { set dest [file tail $source] } set ftp(LocalFilename) $source set ftp(SourceCI) [open $ftp(LocalFilename) r] so I don't see the need for a -unique option. > The functionality behind the -hylafax option, this STOT (Store Temp) command, > seems to be generic enough to me that I would name the option -temp or similar. ok -temp seems to have more sense than -hylafax. Hm. You have a point with that ... When I was working on this my focus was on the developer of a module make it nice for her to run the testsuite after changes. In that situation mailing a problem is not required, the person to do the fix is right there. > Also there appears to be, at least on solaris, a half dozen or more > (bench, ftp, ftpd, grammer_peg, http, irc, javascript, jpeg, nmea, nntp, > page, pluginmgr, smtpd, tar, term, tiff, transfer ) modules with a > "yellow" marking, which I take to mean that no tests were executed > (either none were present, or none passed some sort of screening). Yes, these modules have no test cases. There is no screening in sak, beyond the ability to choose the tests of specific modules. The only way to get screening on a test-by-test basis is to set the env. variable TCLTEST_OPTIONS before running sak. That was always the case. > I > wonder if everyone is seeing that, or if there is just something on > solaris that is missing. No, erverybody should see such marks. And yes, we have quite a number of modules and packages without testsuite. In a way this yellow marking is a (hopefully subtle) nag and reminder to developers that they should have testsuites, and to please write them. > Final note - with the latest tcl and tcllib cvs head, I am getting > failures in the following modules > Snit, struct > However, no details appear, so I don't know exactly what is going wrong. > I looked through the README files, but it isn't clear to me how I would > go about running individual tests to get the details of the failures. The sak tool has builtin help. % ./sak.tcl help % ./sak.tcl help test To get detailed output use either the '-v' or '-l STEM' options. You are cordially invited to file bugs and rfe's against anything in Tcllib where you expected to see specific help, answers to questions, etc. and did not get it through the material at hand. -- Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

The standard behaviour for a missing remote file name is to use the name of the local file. Changing this seems to me a good way of tripping anybody depending on that. ... I don't remember, that might be the documented behaviour as well. Making the case for an option stronger. > and add a -hylafax option in > order to use ::ftp::Put to properly work with an > HylaFax server too. > > https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=312883&aid=1592656&g > roup_id=12883 > > Any comments? The functionality behind the -hylafax option, this STOT (Store Temp) command, seems to be generic enough to me that I would name the option -temp or similar. I.e. at the level of a library like ftp make the option describe its general use and functionality, and not what special application you created it for. There might be other apps than just hylafax's ftp server who understand STOT. While I do not know any (yet) it would seem very weird to use ftp::Put -hylafax ... and the application on the other side is FOO, and not hylafax. -- Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

One thing I've always wished that tcl and its extensions did was to prepare a failure report that could then be emailed by the developer when s/he was ready. The report would include the address to which the report should go, platform info, tcl info, configuration info, as well as the specific failure reports. The tcllib test suite seems to go the opposite way, summarizing things in a colorful manner, but making it a bit more difficult to email relevant facts. Also there appears to be, at least on solaris, a half dozen or more (bench, ftp, ftpd, grammer_peg, http, irc, javascript, jpeg, nmea, nntp, page, pluginmgr, smtpd, tar, term, tiff, transfer ) modules with a "yellow" marking, which I take to mean that no tests were executed (either none were present, or none passed some sort of screening). I wonder if everyone is seeing that, or if there is just something on solaris that is missing. Final note - with the latest tcl and tcllib cvs head, I am getting failures in the following modules Snit, struct However, no details appear, so I don't know exactly what is going wrong. I looked through the README files, but it isn't clear to me how I would go about running individual tests to get the details of the failures. =20 --=20 <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > Even if explicitly stated to the contrary, nothing in this posting should be construed as representing my employer's opinions. <URL: mailto:lv...@gm... > <URL: http://www.purl.org/NET/lvirden/ > =20 |

hi, I've just submitted a patch to sf.net related to the ftp module. It makes ::ftp::Put command to use STOU whenever you don't specify a name for the remote file and add a -hylafax option in order to use ::ftp::Put to properly work with an HylaFax server too. https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=312883&aid=1592656&group_id=12883 Any comments? I know what is going on, though (the test is actually one to show you need to be careful to brace your expressions, a warning that is no longer needed with Tcl 8.5.) I'd suggest that if stdout is not a terminal that the default be non-interactive output... That would take care of the most common case. Regular logs via -v and -l, see also the built-in documentation reachable via % ./sak help test > I'm just getting failures in math-fuzzy-ManyCompares-1.1 (and two=20 > other math locations that don't seem to be identified...) expose-1.0,=20 > and set-1.0. > > Sorry about that - the new output structure is really disconcerting. Hm. Ok. Did you sak directly ? Or via 'make test' ? We, well I, got have several complaints about this change, see for example the patch http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=3Ddetail&aid=3D1584520&grou= p_i d=3D12883& atid=3D312883 Now I am trying to think about useful defaults ... Like * When running from 'make test' assume a (non-interactive) buildsystem, and use the verbose log (option -v, verbose). * When running sak directly assume interactive use, and use the new animated feedback. There was also a proposal to somehow determine in sak if stdout is a redirection or pipe and use the verbose log in these cases. -- Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

Regular logs via -v and -l, see also the built-in documentation reachable via % ./sak help test > I'm just getting failures in math-fuzzy-ManyCompares-1.1 (and two other > math locations that don't seem to be identified...) expose-1.0, and > set-1.0. > > Sorry about that - the new output structure is really disconcerting. Hm. Ok. Did you sak directly ? Or via 'make test' ? It turns out that all the output I am getting from tcllib's test suite is strangely \r terminated. That threw me off - I thought that it was all output from the sak test, when in fact it was just lots of weird output from whatever tcllib is now using as a test harness. I'm just getting failures in math-fuzzy-ManyCompares-1.1 (and two other math locations that don't seem to be identified...) expose-1.0, and set-1.0. Sorry about that - the new output structure is really disconcerting. --=20 <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > Even if explicitly stated to the contrary, nothing in this posting should be construed as representing my employer's opinions. <URL: mailto:lv...@gm... > <URL: http://www.purl.org/NET/lvirden/ > =20 -----Original Message----- From: Michael Schlenker [mailto:sch...@is...]=20 Sent: Monday, November 06, 2006 1:45 PM To: Virden, Larry W. This should not happen. I just ran the tcllib testsuite from CVS against the current Tcl HEAD and it worked just fine (three errors in there, but those are probably know (in math, snit and struct on error each on SUSE 10.1 x86_64). So do you get a log file or some useful other info? Michael |

I have just run tcllib's HEAD tests under Tcl8.5a5. Runs fine, three failures: one each in math, snit and struct. Passed 14121 of 14378 Skipped 254 of 14378 Failed 3 of 14378 #Errors 0 Miguel |

I'm curious whether people have taken a look at their modules in relationship to Tcl 8.5a5. I tried running the test suite myself and found that I only got as far as the first test - sak.tcl in my case, and I got a deluge of output followed by a complete failure of the test suite... -- Tcl - The glue of a new generation. <URL: http://wiki.tcl.tk/ > Larry W. That means the issue has already been settled. (I must really get acquainted with snit - I have read the tutorial, but I have never actually used it, so far). So, for tcllib and tklib we may state that code contributors are warm-heartedly encouraged to use the OO packages (snit and stooop, at least) that are in tcllib now, whichever they feel comfortable with? (Mind you: I am not proposing a standard nor do I want to start yet another discussion. I hope I chose my words carefully enough. I just want to make clear what we want to achieve) Regards, Arjen |
