Dear Tcl guys, thanks for your response to my pheap page in the Tcl Wiki http://wiki.tcl.tk/22428 ! I have improved performance and increased the version number to 0.2. Regards, - Florian |

Ok, having heard nothing regarding my question I have acted as promised, as of a minute ago 'exif' is now on the installer's exclude list, meaning that it will not be installed by default any longer. pheap - Priority Queue A Pairing-heap [1] priority queue in Tcl [0] http://wiki.tcl.tk/22428 [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pairing_heap <quote [0]> Comparison with package struct::prioqueue: Prioqueue lacks the sometimes essential functionality of setp or promote and its implementation seems to be a bubblesort in disguise, which is detrimental to performance if one is dealing with many items. Pheap on the other hand, reflects more closely the intention and performance characteristics of a priority queue and it seems to be more versatile, too. (The interface of get and peek in struct::prioqueue makes me frown, too. Imho the distinction of lists and strings should not be blurred more, but less.) </quote> Hm. We have no benchmarks for the struct::prioqueue code ... Time to write some it seems ... However, what are sensible benchmarks for prioqueue ... Andreas |

It seems that some of Colin McCormack's utility packages for the Wub web server escaped into the wild, or more precisely, to the wiki. See http://wiki.tcl.tk/3650 Colin told me that he believes that "They're ready for the crucible of public criticism" He knows that some of them provide the same or similar functionality as existing Tcllib modules, however he believes that his are, well, better. So here I am pinging this list, have a look, see if you like them, or not, and if not, why. -- So long, Andreas Kupries <aku...@sh...> <http://www.purl.org/NET/akupries/> Developer @ <http://www.activestate.com/> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Aaron Faupell asks me to deprecate the module and package 'exif', as being a subset of the functionality available through his module and package 'jpeg'. Deprecation would mean (for the moment (*)) that 'exif' would get 'Exclude' status in the installer. I.e. the module would still be part of the code base, but not installed by default. It could still be installed by explicit request, i.e. providing the option '+excluded' to installer.tcl on its command line. If anybody has objections to this change please register them within a week. Without any such the deprecation of 'exif' will happen in the evening if Tue Feb 5, 2009, PST (-0800). (*) Complete removal from the installer or even code base is something we can think about later. -- So long, Andreas Kupries <aku...@sh...> <http://www.purl.org/NET/akupries/> Developer @ <http://www.activestate.com/> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I have set the version to 1.6.1. As far as I am concerned, you can release this version (although I saw mention of an error in one of the demo scripts that I want to look at). I do want to implement/incorporate several more enhancements, but they are less critical. Regards, Arjen |

My original plan was to release end of this week. I can certainly delay one or two more weeks, given that I promised end of January IIRC. |

One trivial way would be to ask Andreas to delay the release of the current release candidate of tklib a bit and do another release candidate with your changes included. Michael |

Hello, Dave Hanks and I have been working on an extension for time charts and Gantt charts in the Plotchart module (you can now have a scrollable chart). As he is bound to official releases of the software, we would like to have a new official release of Tklib within the next few weeks (the deadline is in six weeks' time). I need one or two weeks to finish a few additional features and then a new release would be ready as far as Plotchart is concerned. Would it be possible to get this done in this time scale? Ok, as nobody is standing up to help with doing a Tklib release before Xmas I will apparently have to make the release alone. That means I will do the Tcllib release as planned, and the Tklib release when I am back from my vacation, in January, making it a 'New Year's release instead of Xmas. -- Andreas Kupries <and...@Ac...> Developer @ http://www.ActiveState.com Tel: +1 778-786-1122 |

Perhaps letting them Certainly. As Jeff and Damon both have devel access it should be no problem for them to put their code in when they have something ready.
