Where does this go and what is its name and what is it's scope ? Is it global? It is my understanding that .environment.plist is only for guy based apps. Attached in my plist. Feel free to use it and modify it to meet your needs. Hello, Is there some mechanism to force Apple's Tcl/Tk to run in 32 bit mode? I have some extensions that are only 32 bit… If I start tclsh with: arch -i386 /usr/bin/tclsh then my older extensions will load. I have some gui-based apps ( wrapped with platypus ) that want to load the 32 bit (only) versions of the extensions. Is there something like the VERSIONER variables that Python uses? Is there something I can put into the environment.plist in .MacOSX to direct gui tcl apps to use 32 bit mode? Thanks for any insights… Jerry |

You'll need to do a fresh checkout and build from Fossil to test. It will not be corrected in Snow Leopard's build of Tk-Cocoa, though it should make it into a future version of ActiveTcl. The fix was a one-liner change in tkMacOSXMenu.c, calling for the lower-case string of the accelerator key, which I figured out based on advice here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/404830/cocoa-wont-capture-shift-modifier Stack Overflow is a very useful resource. --Kevin -- Kevin Walzer Code by Kevin http://www.codebykevin.com |

Can you check the 'winfo server .' return of the working and non-working OS X builds? Maybe also against an ActiveTcl version of your choice? I believe this may be a Carbon vs. Cocoa issue. In Pd-extended, I'm getting a strange inconsistency with binding to key combinations that is only triggered with key bindings that include Shift in it. This happens only on Mac OS X 10.6 using the built-in Tcl/Tk. Mac OS X 10.5 with custom built 8.5.8 works fine, as well as Windows and GNU/Linux. The windows are each a toplevel that has a canvas covering the full window, then everything else is drawn onto the canvas. The bindings in question are: set ::modifier "Mod1" ;# for x-platform support set ::altkey "Option" bind all <$::modifier-Key-a> {menu_send %W selectall} bind all <$::modifier-$::altkey-Key-a> {menu_toggle_autopatch} bind all <$::modifier-Shift-Key-B> {menu_send %W bng} When I press Cmd-a, menu_send is called once with the canvas id. Same goes for Cmd-Option-a. But when I press Cmd-Shift-b, menu_send is called twice, once for the toplevel and again for the canvas. There are about 30 $::modifier-Key bindings, 4 $::modifier-$::altkey- Key bindings, and 15 $::modifier-Shift-Key bindings, and this behavior is consistent across all of them, it is only the bindings with the Shift that get sent twice. You can see the full code in question here: http://pure-data.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb.cgi?p=pure-data/pd-extended.git;a=blob;f=tcl/pd_bindings.tcl;h=554adbd9bd5ddd476e51caddfb0aa1e5536990c1;hb=HEAD Any ideas? .hc ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We have nothing to fear from love and commitment." - New York Senator Diane Savino, trying to convince the NY Senate to pass a gay marriage bill |

Submission of Summaries Tcl/Tk 2011 will be held in Manassas, Virgina, USA from October 24 - 28, 2011. The program committee is asking for papers and presentation proposals from anyone using or developing with Tcl/Tk (and extensions). Past conferences have seen submissions covering a wide variety of topics including: * Scientific and engineering applications * Industrial controls * Distributed applications and Network Managment * Object oriented extensions to Tcl/Tk * New widgets for Tk * Simulation and application steering with Tcl/Tk * Tcl/Tk-centric operating environments * Tcl/Tk on small and embedded devices * Medical applications and visualization * Use of different programming paradigms in Tcl/Tk and proposals for new directions. * New areas of exploration for the Tcl/Tk language This year is the fourth year that the Tcl community is participating in the Google Summer of Code. The conference program committee would like to encourage submissions that report on the Tcl projects selected for Google SoC 2011. Submissions should consist of an abstract of about 100 words and a summary of not more than two pages, and should be sent as plain text to <tclconference AT googlegroups DOT com> no later than August 26, 2011. Authors of accepted abstracts will have until October 9, 2011 to submit their final paper for the inclusion in the conference proceedings. The proceedings will be made available on digital media, so extra materials such as presentation slides, code examples, code for extensions etc. are encouraged. Printed proceedings will be produced as an on-demand book at lulu.com The authors will have 25 minutes to present their paper at the conference. The program committee will review and evaluate papers according to the following criteria: * Quantity and quality of novel content * Relevance and interest to the Tcl/Tk community * Suitability of content for presentation at the conference Proposals may report on commercial or non-commercial systems, but those with only blatant marketing content will not be accepted. Application and experience papers need to strike a balance between background on the application domain and the relevance of Tcl/Tk to the application. Application and experience papers should clearly explain how the application or experience illustrates a novel use of Tcl/Tk, and what lessons the Tcl/Tk community can derive from the application or experience to apply to their own development efforts. Papers accompanied by non-disclosure agreements will be returned to the author(s) unread. All submissions are held in the highest confidentiality prior to publication in the Proceedings, both as a matter of policy and in accord with the U. S. Copyright Act of 1976. The primary author for each accepted paper will receive registration to the Technical Sessions portion of the conference at a reduced rate. Other Forms of Participation The program committee also welcomes proposals for panel discussions of up to 90 minutes. Proposals should include a list of confirmed panelists, a title and format, and a panel description with position statements from each panelist. Panels should have no more than four speakers, including the panel moderator, and should allow time for substantial interaction with attendees. Panels are not presentations of related research papers. Slots for Works-in-Progress (WIP) presentations and Birds-of-a-Feather sessions (BOFs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis starting in August 1, 2011. Specific instructions for reserving WIP and BOF time slots will be provided in the registration information available in June 2011. Some WIP and BOF time slots will be held open for on-site reservation. All attendees with an interesting work in progress should consider reserving a WIP slot. Registration Information More information on the conference is available the conference Web site (http://www.tcl.tk/community/tcl2011/) and will be published on various Tcl/Tk-related information channels. I've released updates to two of my open-source packages for Tcl-Mac: 1. Cocoaprint-1.3: This release adds support for print preview and saving a file as PDF or PostScript. Download from http://tk-components.sourceforge.net. 2. Windowlist-1.4: This release enhances the "window" menu support for OS X, and fixes a bug bringing all windows forward when no window is showing. It's "by design" that launched shell apps don't get front process status. Someone provided a reference before, but I'll just note that a "work-around" to have your process be front is to use the tclCarbonProcesses extensions (in the teapot if you use ActiveTcl), and then 'carbon::setFrontProcess [carbon::getCurrentProcess]'. You can also set the process name with carbon::setProcessName, which may be useful for the case that David Zolli hit. Jeff |

I don't suppose anyone knows a hack to raise the Wish application when it starts from the command line ? On my OSX-10.5/wish-8.5.8/G4 system, all wish apps start up underneath the Terminal or Finder. Once or twice they do make it to the top and get focus automatically.. but I don't know why, and it's not reproducible. Steven |

Tablelist is a megawidget of other core Tk widgets, tktable is a pure C-based widget. Not sure if that is a real cause, or just varies the trigger slightly. As you noted that ActiveTcl has this working, I suspect it is a regular core bug that has been addressed since 8.5.7 that ships with Snow Leopard. The problem with OS X (and similar OS vendors) is that you can't rely on them to update the language core you rely on. With the release of Snow Leopard, this was the first Cocoa-based release of Tk in the wild, so it in particular had several issues. Jeff |

I don't seem to be able to cause the problem when I use Tktable as the main data structure. However Tablelist seems to have the problem ( don't know why, is not tablelist a pure Tk object? ). I don't seem to be able to provoke the problem when using on of my WxPython programs that uses the wxgrid object as the data container... Jerry |

You might want to search for "BWidget: Scrollbars on notebook tabs cease to respond" to read the whole story. Unfortunately, there was no response. Perhaps, there are not that many people using BWidgets on the Mac? > > Cheers, > Bernhard > > Fortunately Brian Oakley's ComboBox works well in my app :) The tablelist author has outlined for me how to implement a popup menu on a column.
