Install Apple's X11 package from their web site or the install cd if Panther. 2. Go to http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/swarm 3. Download the most recent tcl, tk and blt2.4z packages from the files page. 4. Install them by double clicking. They will install in subdirectories of /usr/local. So they will not interfere with anything else and can be removed just by deleting the subdirectories. 5. Create a text file in your home directory with the excatly the two following lines: setenv DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/tcl8.4.4/lib:/usr/local/tk8.4.4/lib:/usr/local/blt2.4z/lib5p2/lib:. setenv DISPLAY :0.0 ***(that is only two lines! both beginning setenv)**** Save the file as .tcsh Note the period at the beginning of the name. The file will be invisible in the Finder but you can see it in the terminal by typing 'ls -a ~/' 6. Start a new terminal window. 7. Type 'printenv' the last two lines should be: DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/tcl8.4.4/lib:/usr/local/tk8.4.4/lib:/usr/local/blt2.4z/lib5p2/lib:. DISPLAY=:0.0 8. If that worked start X11 and type in the terminal window '/usr/local/tcl8.4.4/bin/bltwish' You should get a different prompt in the terminal and a blt window should appear. tk and BLT commands typed at the terminal should display in the window. You can then build software against the packages but you will need to specify the paths to the tcl/tk and BLT directories in the build set up. You will need Apple's X11 SDK package or the X11 headers will be missing. (Don't know about Panther here) Enjoy Bill Northcott |
