This error comes in tclPipe.c when tcl goes to open the file to store the errors in the pipeline. It is trying to make the file in /var/tmp so far as I can tell. Even on a read-only file system, I an a little surprised that /var/tmp is not present & writeable - even if just as an in-memory filesystem... So many tools rely on this... But I have never played with how things get set up in Mac OS X when booted from a CD.
