Some good points were made today about TIP 5, and so I have decided to withdraw my proposal in favor of a new proposal, TIP 6, which should show up here soon. TIP 5 has been marked with "Status: Withdrawn" and "Obsoleted-By: 6" per the TIP header format. The reasons for withdrawal are: 1. It adds too much complexity, in particular with respect to memory management. 2. It is not "type safe" with respect to the function signatures of callback functions; in particular, the API Tk_SetWindowCallback(...) requires the casting of the function pointer to a "lowest common denominator" pointer (basically, (void *)), which defeats the ability of the compiler to catch type mismatches between a (TkCreateProc *) and the function to be used as a TkCreateProc.
