Yes, the whole thing started from a wish to make handling mouse wheel events as uniform over the various platforms as possible. That means indeed that we have to collect all the information needed to achieve this goal. Possibly we will go through a number of iterations: The vertical scrolling is IMO the first step with support for the more general gestures as the next one.
