Category: 14. List Object Group: current: 8.4.11 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Matt Diephouse (mdiep) Assigned to: Jan Nijtmans (nijtmans) Summary: Missing Docs for String Representation of List Elements Initial Comment: There is no documentation for how Tcl generates the string representation of list elements. When is an element brace-quoted? When are braces backslashed? From IRC: <dgp> IIRC, Tcl's string rep. production rules for a list element are: <dgp> 1) no quoting, if that's safe. <dgp> 2) Brace quoting, if no imbalance produced <dgp> 3) backslash quoting, otherwise. <dgp> that's it. No "mixed modes" produced. This should be documented somewhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=110894&aid=1230548&group_id=10894 |
