I think the usual values are orthogonal with tile (see my other mail), 
so the switch should either allow a list of orthogonal values:

  -backgroundanchor {center tile}

or there should be a separate switch, (e.g. -backgroundmode) that 
accepts the values normal, tile, and stretch.

BTW, it might even make sense for tile and stretch to specify them for 
only one direction, or even mix them (stretch in x direction, tile in 
y).
