In my system (Debian 7.0 wheezy), I have the following environment set:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf-8

The default language of the system is English, and I very rarely see any Estonian language displayed anywhere.

I start taskcoach as:
$ LANG=et_EE taskcoach.py
in order to get dates formatted properly for my locale.

I have chosen the language "English (US)" in Preferences -> Language.

Now, most of the interface is in English, but some elements of dialog boxes are in Estonian. For example at the lower corner of the Preferences dialog, the two buttons are labeled "Loobu", "Olgu" (meaning "Cancel", "OK" in Estonian), the entire file selection dialog (as used in File -> Open) is in Estonian, etc.

It seems that the LANG variable takes precedence over the language choice for these dialogs. That should not be the case.

    The first problem is basically because the Estonian translation is barely 10% complete. Next release will not even suggest languages under 90%. You're welcome to help of course (https://translations.launchpad.net/taskcoach).

    The second problem is because "standard" dialogs are automatically translated by the underlying toolkit (wxWidgets); not much we can do about it...

    If you want an English user interface with Estonian dates/times, just keep your usual environment, set the language to English in Task Coach and change your date/time preferences in your desktop preferences. Task Coach should follow the Gnome and KDE settings for date and time formatting, regardless of the language.

    Thank you for the suggestions!

    I tried changing the Gnome default, but that changed too many other things in the Gnome user interface, and revealed some bugs in Gnome, so I had to revert that.

    For the record, I did find a better way of getting the Estonian dates, however:
    $ LC_TIME=et_EE taskcoach.py
    (as opposed to using LANG) keeps the dialogs in English, affecting only date/time formats.

    Regarding the wxWidgets issue: I still think it is a bug, but one which is too complicated to fix, especially because I would be the only known user experiencing this. At this point I recommend closing this bug with a "won't fix" tag or equivalent.

    Yes, I forgot about LC_TIME. You're right, it's still a bug, but not a Task Coach bug :)
