I don't know how it is on other systems, but in KDE, there is a simple preference dialog to choose all the date and time and other formats for different locales. There is a default for different countries, but it is easy to change to YYYY-MM-DD for example, which is the international standard.
Task Coach should, but currently does not, recognize this setting. So instead of just assuming all the defaults based on language, it should respect whatever settings are done for the system.
A fix was made and checked into the source code repository of Task Coach. The fix will be part of the next release. You will get another notification when that release is available with the request to install the new release and confirm that your issue has indeed been fixed.
If you like, you can download a recent build from http://www.fraca7.net/TaskCoach-packages/latest_bugfixes.py to test the fix.
Because a fix has been made for this bug report, the priority of this report has been lowered to 1 and its resolution has been set to 'Fixed'.

Nope, I have KDE settings at YYYY-MM-DD and I am still seeing the American MM/DD/YYYY in both the columns and the date picker. It seems not be seeing the KDE settings.
Strange; I tested this with Ubuntu 12.10. What version of KDE are you using ? It will only work with KDE4.
I'm on the very latest KDE 4.10, on a system built on Ubuntu 12.04
To be clear: I did not change the country or languages, only the short-date setting

Yes, that's what I did too. What is your language setting in Task Coach - specified or "let the system decide" ?
I use "let the system decide"
For some reason I kept reading "time" instead of "date"...

Still not fixed for me. I'm on 6143
Incidentally, why did this get set back to Windows and Milestone 0.23 when you marked it fixed?
Should be fixed in r6146 (building).
For the milestone, I guess it's a bug of the SF API; I'm using the release.py script to mark fixed and it doesn't try to change anything but status and priority...
indeed, fixed! Cheers
