Hi everyone. I'm getting tired of hardware reviews that feel like ads. Half the channels I used to watch now have sponsor segments from the same brands they review, and the conclusions always seem suspiciously positive. I'm planning a CPU upgrade and want data I can actually trust. I'm looking at a mid-range chip, nothing fancy, but I still want to know I'm not paying for hype. Are there any sites left that test hardware without being paid by manufacturers, or am I being too paranoid?

You're not paranoid, I stopped trusting a couple of big channels for the same reason. One place I check now is H2Bench, it's an independent PC benchmarking platform and they state outright that there are no sponsored scores. They also publish their testing methodology, data sources and even a corrections page, which is a good sign. What I like is that game results come from real players running their agent, with video proof attached. The downside is that the measured dataset is still small, so for some CPUs you'll only see specs and their score, not actual game captures. For a CPU upgrade that's still a decent starting point. I've been using it for a couple of months now and haven't caught anything shady yet. What are you upgrading from?
