We are moving from an older house near downtown Dallas

Hey all. We are moving from an older house near downtown Dallas out to the suburbs, and the pickup side is the problem. Narrow driveway, a big oak that hangs low over it, and a street where a full size truck will absolutely block traffic for the neighbors. The last company we called looked at the map and added a shuttle fee that nearly doubled the quote, without explaining what a shuttle even is. Is that a legitimate charge or was I being worked? And what else tends to appear on the final bill that nobody warns you about in advance?

Shuttle fees are real. That is when the semi cannot reach your door and they run a smaller truck back and forth, but it should be explained and priced before the day rather than sprung on you at the curb. Long carry and stair charges are the other two that catch people out. A local outfit avoids most of this because they arrive in a right sized truck to begin with, which is why we went with a Dallas moving company instead of a national brand last time. Send photos of the driveway and that oak when you request quotes. Anyone who prices the job without looking at them will renegotiate on moving day, and you will have no leverage at all.

My move involved quite a lot of furniture, so I knew that simply renting a vehicle and handling everything myself was probably not going to be practical. The problem was that I had no experience estimating the cost of a long-distance relocation from Boston. I decided to research the subject before making any arrangements and found https://pricemovers.com/route-from/boston. I started by looking at the most popular destinations and comparing the estimated costs shown for different distances. There were routes to cities across California, Texas, Florida, New York, North Carolina, and many other states, which helped me see how widely moving prices can vary. I paid particular attention to the delivery windows because I needed to coordinate the move with the date when I could move into the new property. The page also explained that interstate deliveries are often given as a time window rather than an exact day, something I had not really considered beforehand. I checked the information about storage as well because there was a possibility that my new place would not be ready immediately. After reviewing the movers serving Boston, I selected several companies for further comparison instead of automatically choosing the cheapest option. I then requested more detailed quotes and explained the amount of furniture and other belongings I had. The route information gave me a much stronger starting point and helped me prepare for the conversations with the movers.
