Hi everyone ! ### v0.3.0 First stable version of JSymphonic, named Ode To Freedom, v0.3.0 has been released on February. If you haven't done so yet, download and test this version. Please remember that it is declared to be a stable version, so it is important to report any bug you may encounter!! Some languages are missing for this version. If the translators take the time to complete the translations, new version will be released to include them. ### v0.4.0 Next version is still under development. But a pre-alpha has been released last week. Done: - GUI has been reviewed and one important new feature appearing is the drag'n'drop. - playlist importation is now implemented To do: - fully implement the playlist feature (it is not possible for the moment to create a playlist from the content of the player,...) Please test the new pre-alpha, to be downloaded here: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/jsymphonic/trunk/ All report for this version should be made directly to me by email or in the developer part of the forum, but since this release is not official, please do not post in the public forum. Enjoy these versions :-) Greets, Nicolas |

Hi to all !! Version 0.3.0 beta is out !! See the webiste for downloads: http://symphonic.sourceforge.net I'm going to wait 2 weeks for bug reports. If no big bug show up, I will release the stable version on June, the 15th. Please, try this version and report any bug!!! -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Note to translators: I hope that missing translations will be ready at this date. Concerning Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Chinese, some words have slightly changed so they appear as "fuzzy" now. One string has been added. Please make the corresponding modification on the online tool. Thanks!!! -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Note to generation 3 owners: I've added the 32 and 48kbps bitrate conversion for FFMPEG in the properties window. Can you please try these bitrates with your player and let me know if your player is able to read these bitrates. About the code name: Beethoven: Symphony No.9, originally named "Ode to Joy", Leonard Bernstein conducted a version of the 9th, with "Freiheit" ("Freedom") replacing "Freude" ("Joy"), to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall during Christmas 1989. So, we are using the name of this version! Hi all I've just gone from 0.2.1a to 0.3.0 and the improvement is outstanding!More precisely, I'm really happy with the fact that now I get good information about the date and length of songs on my A1000, whereas before I only had songs from year 0000 that lasted 3:30! By the way, I'm on MacOS, and I had the same problems on my iMac with Leopard 10.5.6 as well as my Macbook with Tiger 10.4.11. I'm talking about this because there's still a small issue-> BUG REPORTwith previous versons when I transferred song genre was systematically "(No Name)" ; now, it's "(20)" so basically I still have no information about genres. Tags are iTunes 8 tags. bye ps. I didn't get the joke with Ode to Freedom... isn't that supposed to be Ode to joy? Date: Thu, 14 May 2009 14:38:54 +0200 From: nic...@us... Subject: Re: [Symphonic-testers] JSymphonic: road to version 0.3.0 stable Hi to all !! -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=2) JSymphonic code name discussions-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=Votes are closed. The winning them is the first one: "Symphony names". As first code name (for version 0.3.0) I really like what Paulo proposed "Ode to freedom" (Beethoven 9th symphony). We think it perfect fits JSymphonic since it frees us from SonicStage !! So if anybody do not agree, just tell. If not, it will be the code name of next stable version. Thanks to the ones who gave their opinions. -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3) JSymphonic website is online -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= As you knew, JSymphonic has a website. Now, the website has a theme, which colors match the ones from the logo. I also try to fill in as possible the content so that we are only going to use this website, and not the Sourceforge page. You'll find on the website: - news - a presentation - downloads - screenshots - a documentation - faq - the new forum - a contact us page - code source links - a how to join page - a GPL page So far, the only page which needs to be updated is the documentation one. But I'm waiting v0.3.0b to do so. I closed the Wiki, the documentation and the forum on Sourceforge pages. You are welcomed to discover the website and report me any mistake, any bug or any suggestion !!! http://symphonic.sourceforge.net/ You can also register to this website if you want to contribute and to the new forum to discuss any points !! I thank: - uluss for installing the content manager and dealing with the database and the web server, - Parha for designing the logo - metricjester for writting a correct README file (which I used for the website documentation) - mysefl for designing the theme and filling in the website. Have a great end of week. Nicolas 2009/4/30 Nicolas Cardoso <nic...@us...> Hi to all ! Here are the news about JSymphonic :-) And I need you to do a couple of things... -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1) Few words about JSymphonic roadmap: -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - Version 0.3.0a1: released on december the 25th of 2008 - Version 0.3.0a2: released on march the 10th of 2009 - Version 0.3.0 pre-beta: is quite ready to be released, here is what's missing: > some details are to be fixed in the GUI > the Atrac support for 3rd generation have to be tested (I'm waiting for reports from gen3 owners) > the language files have to be integrated into the online translation tool (I will inform translators as soon as it will be ready). This version will be in english only - Version 0.3.0b: will be the same as 0.3.0 pre-beta with ALL translations - Version 0.3.0 stable: will be the same as 0.3.0b with all bug fixes needed You can start right now to report any bug from the last build you'll find in the repository: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/jsymphonic/branches/v0.3/ Every single bug or bad behaviour has to be reported!! The goal is to end up with a stable and coherent version!! Please note that a compressed version of FFMPEG for Windows is now available on the sourceforge download page: https://sourceforge.net:443/project/showfiles.php?group_id=190494&package_id=303948 It is exactly the same as before, but it only weighs 2mo. -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2) JSymphonic code name discussions -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= We started a discussion in the developers forum about naming stable version of JSymphonic. Here is the way JSymphonic will be called: "JSymphonic 0.3.0a" for alpha (unstable) versions "JSymphonic 0.3.0b" for beta (testing) versions "JSymphonic 0.3.0 name" for stable version (the second number is for features improvements, the third one for bug fixes) But we need to find names to use to call stable version. The names should respect some rules: - version name should be a single word - version name should not contains special characters "é,è,..." - we are developing a software under GPL, we should not advertise for this or that thing The idea is to choose a theme, and pick names in accordance. So far, we have proposed the 3 themes (and corresponding names) that you can read below. I'm asking to all of you to: - propose other themes and names if you have ideas - vote for the theme you like. Once a theme will be picked, we will vote for the name of version 0.3.0. Thanks for giving your opinion !! Nicolas The themes: THEME 1) "Symphony names" since the name of the program is JSymphonic, we can use names from famous symphony. The problem is that symphonies were often named with numbers... However, here are some names of symphony usable: Brukenthal : Symphony number 21 by Joseph Haydn Hornsignal : Symphony number 31 by Joseph Haydn Mercury : Symphony number 43 by Joseph Haydn Palindrome : Symphony number 47 by Joseph Haydn Feuer : Symphony number 59 by Joseph Haydn Roxelane : Symphony number 63 by Joseph Haydn Loudon : Symphony number 69 by Joseph Haydn Drum-roll : Symphony number 69 by Joseph Haydn Haffner : Symphony number 35 by Mozart Linz : Symphony number 36 by Mozart Prague : Symphony number 38 by Mozart Jupiter : Symphony number 41 by Mozart Eroica : Symphony number 3 by Beethoven Pastorale : Symphony number 6 by Beethoven Ode to Joy : Symphony number 9 by Beethoven Winter Daydreams : Symphony number 1 by Tchaikovski Little Russian : Symphony number 2 by Tchaikovski Polish : Symphony number 3 by Tchaikovski Pathétique : Symphony number 6 by Tchaikovski Manfred : Symphony without number by Tchaikovski Titan : Symphony number 1 by Mahler Resurrection : Symphony number 2 by Mahler Leningrad : Symphony number 7 by Chostakovitch Turangalila : Symphony by Messiaen THEME 2) "Symphony composers " once again, "JSymphonic" makes think about symphony, so after symphony names, here are symphony writers: (Joseph) Haydn (Wolfgang Amadeus) Mozart (Ludwig van) Beethoven Bruckner Dvorak Mahler Schubert (Pyotr Ilyich) Tchaikovsky (Ralph Vaughan) Williams Chostakovitch Berlioz (Olivier) Messiaen (George Frideric) Handel (Antonio) Vivaldi (Richard) Strauss (Claude) Debussy (Maurice) Ravel (Johann Sebastian) Bach (Johannes) Brahms (Johann) Pachelbel THEME 3) "names from music", we can just pick names of Albums or Titles we love. This them is a little bit ambiguous because we have to keep in mind that the code name should be a single word (or a couple...) and we should be careful about the sense it carries... In my opinion, it is not correct to pick the name of the last album of Britney Spears... It's different than talking about symphony composers dead since 200 years... These composers and symphonies belong to general culture and entertainement... _________________________________________________________________ Messenger 2009: scaricalo gratis! http://messenger.it/ |

Hi all ! I'm doing some code improvements and I need to have precise information about each walkman. I have already some info, stored here: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/documentation/NWwalkman historic/Walkman_historic.jpeg?revision=271&view=markup Can you please all: - check that your walkman is listed - check that info about your walkman are correct - complete cells with a "?" and return me all comments. Thanks for helping. Nicolas |

Hello everyone. I'm one of the satisfied users of JSymphonic, and I originally found out about it on the SonicStage wikipedia page. The "external links" on that page have been removed, and I was hoping it could be re-posted so others could find out about JSymphonic and once again enjoy using their Sony music players. I'm a total door-knob when it comes to making web pages or even wikipedia, as I found out with my first-ever posting on it regarding reinstating the "external links". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:SonicStage#External_links I was directed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:EL to review the policies, but it was a bit over-whelming for me, and I am still left scratching my head as to why those links couldn't be posted. I think it IS relavent to the original article regarding Sony's SonicStage software, especially since Sony no longer even supports that software. I'm hoping somebody with the knowledge, skills, ability and time can comment on this and maybe even get that list of links re-instated, or perhaps get a new wikipedia page started for JSymphonic. I would LOVE to help in any way I can, but I'm SO clueless that I think it would be like asking my cat to assist in brain surgery. :-) I also don't have my own internet connection, so my ability to get online and do much is extremely limited as well. Thanks for listening (reading) and I'm hoping for much success for JSymphonic, and may it once again bring smiles to the faces of owners of Sony digital music players. Respectfully, JS :-) --- On Sat, 3/7/09, Nicolas Cardoso <car...@gm...> wrote: From: Nicolas Cardoso <car...@gm...> Subject: Re: Fw: Re: Help needed for OMA support in JSymphonic To: sir...@ya... Date: Saturday, March 7, 2009, 3:30 AM Hi ! It is a very good idea ! I was thinking about doing a Wikipedia page for JSymphonic, but I didn't think about linking it to the SonicStage's one ! I didn't write the page myself because filling the website has a higher priority. But, in a few weeks, JSymphonic is coming to be stable (with the 0.3.0 release) and it could be a good thing to have the website ready for this date and to communicate as much as we can to make it more famous. Wikipedia is a great way to do so. You are welcome to write to the developpers and testers mailing list to propose the idea ! Here are the adresses: Sym...@li... Sym...@li... And, if you have time and will, you can contribute to JSymphonic's website: http://symphonic.sourceforge.net/ (As you can see, so far, it is just the default CMS page... everything has to be changed !) If you want so, let me know ! If you don't have any skill but you want to improve them, it's time to learn !! ;-) See you ! Nicolas 2009/2/25 JS <sir...@ya...> Hello Nicolas. I'm glad to help and I'm also glad that this project is still alive and kicking. I so VERY much dislike Sony's SonicStage, your JSymphonic program will be SUCH a welcome alternative to use. On a side note, I believe the original resource I found that lead me towards JSymphonic was on Wikipedia. I had done a search on Sony SonicStage and towards the bottom of the page there was a list of alternative software programs with links that a person could use. I checked and none of those alternatives are any longer listed. I think it might be helpful to continue to have a notation on that page (if it is allowed) pointing people towards the JSymphonic page. I would be more than happy to promote JSymphonic as much as I can, but I'm one of those dinasaurs that doesn't know how to make a web page or even make an addition to a Wikipedia page. If you want, I'd be more than happy to start a thread suggesting these things on the JSymphonic message board to see if anyone that has the knowlege and skills to do so, but I don't want to do that if you don't think it's the right time for that. I do think there are MANY Sony Walkman users that would be VERY happy to find out about and use JSymphonic as an alternative to the disaster known as SonicStage. ;-) Have a GREAT week! Also, the title I gave you were protected, so it explains why you had trouble even with SonicStage ! I'm gonna try to fix it in one or two weeks. I'll come later with a new version to test ! Cc: "Nicolas Cardoso" <car...@gm...> Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 7:54 PM Hello Nicolas. I'm sorry I've been absent for so long in this testing. I've been without a computer to be able to do testing and now I finally have one and have been trying to do my part. I was reading on the JSymphonic message board and downloaded the version 0.3.0a2 after running into problems with 0.3.0a1. I'm not sure what the ffmpeg.exe is for, but I read that you mentioned we are required to have it installed in the same folder that we have the JSymphonic .jar, so I put it in there. Being the novice that I am and not knowing what I'm doing, I did give in to the temtation to double-click the ffmpeg.exe and saw a dos screen pop up and then disappear. As a refresher, I have an NW-E107 walkman and I primarily use it with .oma music files. It's been quite a while since I've used my walkman, so I had to try and refresh myself on how the setup and transfer worked. Needless to say, I'm having troubles. I started by formatting the walkman via the "format" command within the walkman. I then used SonicStage to "authorize" the player and therefore again had the OMGAUDIO folder present. I then ran the MP3FileManger program (actually the CopyTool.exe program) to get the MP3FM folder back on the player, and it does have the DvID.dat file in the MP3FM folder. I first tried using SonicStage to transfer one of my .oma files over to the player and it worked and played fine on the player. I then tried using the JSymphonic 0.3.0.a2 to transfer that same .oma song (I had used SonicStage to remove it first) and when I tried to play it on my player, it briefly showed the name of the file but then flashed "CANNOT PLAY FILE". I also tried using SonicStage to transfer all of your five test .oma files you sent me, and neither of the 128 bit rate files would import into SonicStage to try and transfer, and the other three would import into SonicStage but would not transfer over to the player. I used JSymphonic to try and transfer each of your test files over individually to my player and they transfered over with no problems, but none of them would play and once again my player flashed "CANNOT PLAY FILE". So, to recap, none of your five test files would play on my player with two of them (the 128's) not being able to import into SonicStage, and when I used JSymphonic to transfer my .oma files, they would not play on my player. I did make sure to have "Generation" in JSymphonic set to "Generation level 3 (NW-E10x)". I do have two log files I'm attaching for you to view if they are helpful. I looked at them and none of it makes any sense to me, but like I mentioned, I'm just one of those pesky "end users". :-) I recall having difficulty sending attachments to your sourceforge email address so that's why I'm Cc'ing this to your gmail account. I also recall having difficulty making a zip file to send you of my folders on my player, so I made three different kinds hoping you can open at least one of them. I use 7-zip as the compression program. Just let me know which one of my files works best and I'll use that format from now on. Once again, I apologize for being absent for so long, and also for not having the best of results to report, and if I'm doing something wrong on my end, please let me know since I am not a wizard at any of this. :-) Thanks again for taking on this project, and if I could BE a wizard, I'd wave my magic wand and have Sony give you open source rights to their .oma encoder/decoder. :-) Sincerely, Kurt (a.k.a. JS) :-) P.S. - I forgot to mention that I mainly use Vista Ultimate 32-bit, but I have to dual-boot with XP in order to use SonicStage. I just don't want to deal with the Vista version of SonicStage as I read there were HORRIBLE problems with it, and I'd rather not use SonicStage ever at all. I've also used the 0.3.0a2 JSymphonic in both Vista and XP to do the trials with the same results as mentioned above. --- On Sun, 4/13/08, Nicolas Cardoso <nic...@us...> wrote: From: Nicolas Cardoso <nic...@us...> Subject: Help needed for OMA support in JSymphonic To: sym...@li... As you may know, JSymphonic last version is always in alpha version... and I have some problems understading what's going on in the different generations for the OMA support... So I would like you to run some tests for me (using SonicStage, so pure Linux or Mac users, you can stop reading here and delete this message...) I have encoded a "test file" (Offspring-Americana-Welcome) using different ATRAC options in SonicStage. I need to know how SonicStage transfers these files on your walkman. BE SURE THAT SONICSTAGE IS CONFIGURED SO THAT IT ONLY CONVERT NON COMPATIBLE FILES (I don't want these files to be converted another time). Tests are as follow: For EACH file in the archive enclosed, you have to : 1) empty your player (rename your original OMGAUDIO folder in something else OMGAUDIO_backup for instance and create an empty OMGAUDIO) 2) start SonicStage, transfer the file 3) go to ".../walkman/OMGAUDIO/10F00" and copy the OMA file, changing his name into something like "SS-originalName" where original name is the name of the file in the archive enclosed. Re-do these step for each file (don't do this in a row, as it is the same track with different encoding, I won't be able to distinguish them...) Then send me back all the files you have generated. a last (at least, I hope) correction about what I said: I have reviewed the structure of the svn. well, I made a mistake in my previous e-mail... the development must be lead in the trunk whereas, once a release is made, the fixes should be done in a branch (thanks to danizmax for the correction.). SO --> all the new developments must be done IN THE TRUNK --> the bug fixes must be done IN THE 0.3.0 BRANCH Please, do not fix bug in the trunk because these changes won't be merge in the branch !!! So please, try this one.I specially need to know if it's still working on Generation 3 walkmans !! Same place to download, same comments as before !!http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/dist/ Please, test it ! it's important !See you !Nicolas2008/12/16 Nicolas Cardoso <nic...@us...> Hello everybody !This e-mail is to warn you about the non-official release of JSymphonic version 0.3.0 PRE-ALPHA ! Non-official because this pre-alpha is not available in SourceForge download page. However, it can be found in the SVN sources at the following address: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/dist/You'll find:- JSymphonic_0.3.0pre-alpha_build20081215.jar -> the program - ffmpeg-win32.zip -> FFMPEG compiled for Windows- jSymphonic.xml -> the new configuration file, in it's default form. It should be useless since JSymphonic automaticly create it if it's absent. ########### First: Why this PRE-ALPHA release ??####### You are a translator ?Version 0.3.0 offers a brand new GUI which needs to be translated. The PRE-ALPHA lets you use the program even if it is not in the alpha stage. You can run it to see how the different labels are used and how to translate them. You'll find in the SVN the language files corresponding to your language at the address: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/src/localization/Please, download the file corresponding to your language (or update your SVN local copy) and replace the English words with their translations in your native language.(You should change the words AFTER the "="). Then, commit your changes or send me back the language file and I will add it the the SVN. The alpha release is schedule for Christmas. I will not wait for one of you !! Moreover, the GUI should be changed to display the name of your language in your language, in the configuration properties. (For example, for the french language, the combo box displaying the list of language doesn't display "French" but "Français"). Please, give me the name of your language in your language. Last thing, can you please check if I didn't make a mistake with the code of your language. For example, language code for french is FR.So, translators are :hpeat -> "Czech" ("cs", "CS") Henning -> "German" ("de", "DE") Mephx -> "Portuguese" ("pt", "PT")mayday85 -> "Russian" ("ru", "RU")herchu -> "Spanish" ("es", "ES") hpeat -> "Slovak" ("sk", "SK")danizmax -> "Slovensko" ("sl", "SI")lenborje -> "Swedish" ("sv", "SV")haiiit53 -> "Turkish" ("tr", "TR") Note that French language has already been translated.####### You want to help to write the wiki or the documentationThis PRE-ALPHA will let know about what you are writing in the documentation ####### For all the others: This PRE-ALPHA allows you to discover the new release before everyone (i.e. to have the bug-problems before everyone ;-) ).Since it is not an alpha version, it is not yet a testable version. The reason why I give it to you is that I want to be sure that it runs fine on everybody's computer, that you are able to transfer files, to use FFMPEG and so on. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IT'S A PRE-ALPHA VERSION. Things are missing, otherwise it would be an alpha or even stable version !!!Concerning but reports, you can start to report bug (I'm going to open a dedicated topic in the SourceForge forum for version 0.3.0a, you can send me e-mail waiting for that topic), but before reporting a bug, please have a look on the following ROADMAP and please don't report a bug for something writen in this roadmap. (two alpha releases are planned, but the second alpha may be a beta and maybe a third alpha would be necessary...) ROADMAP:# Todo for v0.3.0a1- use the logo- implement file progress bar for copies (exportation and importation)- translations- when the content of the player is scanned, user thinks JSymphonic is freezing since nothing happens. We should have a progress bar. (and use methods: Send transfering file progress, Loading progress changed) - write the new READ ME- write credits # Todo for v0.3.0a2- add a path to be configured to give the path to FFMPEG for windows users- FFMPEG under MacOS !?- transcode feature: determine for each generation the format natively supported (m4a?acc?...) and add support for a maximum of formats available in FFMPEG. - tag read ability for new supported formats (FLAC, OGG, MPC, WMA,... ...)- Menu buttons and local folders should be disabled while a transfer is occuring.- fix up OMA support for old generations- complete "About version" (and enable "JSymphonic -version" command to print the version !?) - when logger is occupied scanning the content of the walkman, it doesn't display that a key has been found on protected players- correct the excpetions when building a databe on an empty player- add a "Abord" button to prematurly stop a tranfer (and display a warning stated that the device may not be left in a usuable state !) # Todo for v0.3.0bUnbug the program (any bug)# Todo for v0.3.0Unbug the program (any bug)########### Then: how to use this PRE-ALPHA release ?? Well, basicly, it works as 0.2.x versions. Three major changes have to be noticed:1) There is a new GUI. So button are differents and things may not be placed in the same way... I let you discover that by your own. If you have big problems with this new GUI, just ask me ;-) 2) You can now gives us the log files when a bug occurs !! It will be so easy now to debug !!! ;-)3) It is now possible for Linux and Windows users to add OGG and FLAC files into your walkman (for aingoppa: I would like to see with you a way to make it available for Mac users as well, do you have an idea about how to get FFMPEG for Mac ?). JSymphonic is going to transcode these files to MP3 before sending them to your walkman. This means that JSymphonic needs to know where is FFMPEG. a) You are running on Linux: you need to have installed FFMPEG with MP3 support. You may compile FFMPEG from the sources (google to find the sources) but your distribution may offer you a package. For Ubuntu users (<= 8.04), Hardy release and earlier can have a package for FFMPEG in Medibuntu. For Ubuntu users (>= 8.10), Intrepid release offers a package of FFMPEG but it is compiled WITHOUT MP3 support. You have to install this version first, and to enable MP3 support, you need to enable Multiverse repository and install the following packages: libavcodec-unstripped-51libavdevice-unstripped-52libavformat-unstripped-52libavutil-unstripped-49libpostproc-unstripped-51libswscale-unstripped-0 b) You are running on Windows: in the SVN where you found the PRE-ALPHA of JSymphonic, you'll find a ".zip" file called "ffmpeg-win32.zip". It's FFMPEG which needs to be unzipped and placed in one of the following folders on your walkman (called hereafter "walkman"): walkman\ffmpeg.exewalkman\JSymphonic\ffmpeg.exe walkman\ffmpeg-win32\ffmpeg.exe walkman\JSymphonic\\ffmpeg-win32\ffmpeg.exe One more point, for the first time, the program may launch itself, tell you that the Device Path is incorrect and nothing is displayed then, but you can feel that your computer is going an important task in your hard drive... Well, this means that the configuration file is incorrect and since JSymphonic is scanning the local music folder before the program showed up, the whole disk is considered as the local music folder and is currently scan... Just stop the program, and change by hand the "jSymphonic.xml" file by editing it with your favorite text editor. Same place to download, same comments as before !! http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/dist/ Please, test it ! it's important ! See you ! Hello everybody ! This e-mail is to warn you about the non-official release of JSymphonic version 0.3.0 PRE-ALPHA ! Non-official because this pre-alpha is not available in SourceForge download page. However, it can be found in the SVN sources at the following address: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/dist/ You'll find: - JSymphonic_0.3.0pre-alpha_build20081215.jar -> the program - ffmpeg-win32.zip -> FFMPEG compiled for Windows - jSymphonic.xml -> the new configuration file, in it's default form. It should be useless since JSymphonic automaticly create it if it's absent. ########### First: Why this PRE-ALPHA release ?? ####### You are a translator ? Version 0.3.0 offers a brand new GUI which needs to be translated. The PRE-ALPHA lets you use the program even if it is not in the alpha stage. You can run it to see how the different labels are used and how to translate them. You'll find in the SVN the language files corresponding to your language at the address: http://symphonic.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/symphonic/trunk/jsymphonic/src/localization/ Please, download the file corresponding to your language (or update your SVN local copy) and replace the English words with their translations in your native language.(You should change the words AFTER the "="). For example, language code for french is FR. So, translators are : hpeat -> "Czech" ("cs", "CS") Henning -> "German" ("de", "DE") Mephx -> "Portuguese" ("pt", "PT") mayday85 -> "Russian" ("ru", "RU") herchu -> "Spanish" ("es", "ES") hpeat -> "Slovak" ("sk", "SK") danizmax -> "Slovensko" ("sl", "SI") lenborje -> "Swedish" ("sv", "SV") haiiit53 -> "Turkish" ("tr", "TR") Note that French language has already been translated. ####### You want to help to write the wiki or the documentation This PRE-ALPHA will let know about what you are writing in the documentation ####### For all the others: This PRE-ALPHA allows you to discover the new release before everyone (i.e. to have the bug-problems before everyone ;-) ). Since it is not an alpha version, it is not yet a testable version. The reason why I give it to you is that I want to be sure that it runs fine on everybody's computer, that you are able to transfer files, to use FFMPEG and so on. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IT'S A PRE-ALPHA VERSION. Things are missing, otherwise it would be an alpha or even stable version !!! Concerning but reports, you can start to report bug (I'm going to open a dedicated topic in the SourceForge forum for version 0.3.0a, you can send me e-mail waiting for that topic), but before reporting a bug, please have a look on the following ROADMAP and please don't report a bug for something writen in this roadmap. (two alpha releases are planned, but the second alpha may be a beta and maybe a third alpha would be necessary...) ROADMAP: # Todo for v0.3.0a1 - use the logo - implement file progress bar for copies (exportation and importation) - translations - when the content of the player is scanned, user thinks JSymphonic is freezing since nothing happens. We should have a progress bar. (and use methods: Send transfering file progress, Loading progress changed) - write the new READ ME - write credits # Todo for v0.3.0a2 - add a path to be configured to give the path to FFMPEG for windows users - FFMPEG under MacOS !? - transcode feature: determine for each generation the format natively supported (m4a?acc?...) and add support for a maximum of formats available in FFMPEG. - tag read ability for new supported formats (FLAC, OGG, MPC, WMA,... ...) - Menu buttons and local folders should be disabled while a transfer is occuring. - fix up OMA support for old generations - complete "About version" (and enable "JSymphonic -version" command to print the version !?) - when logger is occupied scanning the content of the walkman, it doesn't display that a key has been found on protected players - correct the excpetions when building a databe on an empty player - add a "Abord" button to prematurly stop a tranfer (and display a warning stated that the device may not be left in a usuable state !) # Todo for v0.3.0b Unbug the program (any bug) # Todo for v0.3.0 Unbug the program (any bug) ########### Then: how to use this PRE-ALPHA release ?? Well, basicly, it works as 0.2.x versions. Three major changes have to be noticed: 1) There is a new GUI. So button are differents and things may not be placed in the same way... I let you discover that by your own. If you have big problems with this new GUI, just ask me ;-) 2) You can now gives us the log files when a bug occurs !! It will be so easy now to debug !!! ;-) 3) It is now possible for Linux and Windows users to add OGG and FLAC files into your walkman (for aingoppa: I would like to see with you a way to make it available for Mac users as well, do you have an idea about how to get FFMPEG for Mac ?). You have to install this version first, and to enable MP3 support, you need to enable Multiverse repository and install the following packages: libavcodec-unstripped-51 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-unstripped-49 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-unstripped-0 b) You are running on Windows: in the SVN where you found the PRE-ALPHA of JSymphonic, you'll find a ".zip" file called "ffmpeg-win32.zip". It's FFMPEG which needs to be unzipped and placed in one of the following folders on your walkman (called hereafter "walkman"): walkman\ffmpeg.exe walkman\JSymphonic\ffmpeg.exe walkman\ffmpeg-win32\ffmpeg.exe walkman\JSymphonic\\ffmpeg-win32\ffmpeg.exe One more point, for the first time, the program may launch itself, tell you that the Device Path is incorrect and nothing is displayed then, but you can feel that your computer is going an important task in your hard drive... Well, I think it's enough for now... Just download and have fun !!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers !! Nicolas |

Hello everybody ! Before anything, I'd like to apologize for my long absence... In few words, I came back from Portugal to France, ended my internship and defended it and then, I looked for a job... which I found on the other side of the France, so I had to look for a new appartment and a new internet connection ! Now, I should be ready to make this version 0.3 !!! Let's have a look on our lovely project: ################################# ############ JSymphonic Danizmax and I are working on the first alpha of version 0.3. Adding of features is of course frozen. We are working to make the current version testable, and then we'll make it usable ;-) There are lot's of things to say, the website needs to be made, as the documentation, in a few days the translations, ... We are discussing with Danizmax about roadmap and a better way to schedule our work. Playlist support, cover support or the embedded player are target for the next releases !! ################################# ############ Library It seems like Sylvain still not have Internet... I don't have any news from you... just answer the e-mail to say what is the progress on this point ################################# ############ amaroK plugin The plugin is waiting for the library, so... ################################# ############ Logo and graphic charter I'm going to contact Parha to establish the work to be done on this point. ################################# ############ Website I'm going to contact Uluss to try to schedule the work to be done on the website. Danizmax suggested good ideas to help the project, about organization and also the website. I'm trying to take them into account. I hope that the version 0.3 will be release as soon as possible to move forward in the development, but also in the communication of the program (website,...). I'm trying to make the first alpha ready for Christmas !! Please tell me your wish or any comment, concerning your tasks or whatever. Hi everyone !! Here are some last news about Symphonic project: ################################# ############ JSymphonic Version 0.3 alpha 1 of JSymphonic is on progress. Danizmax has done a lot of work and has developed a new GUI. I'm trying to work as much as him to implement the function needed with this new interface. But I must confess that I was on vacantions last two weeks... But I should be back to code shortly. The transcode feature is working, but the tags of other format than MP3 are not read for the moment. As you may know, lot's of new features appear in this version and 3 alpha versions are planned as follows: # Todo for v0.3a1 - use Danizmax GUI - logging in a file # Todo for v0.3a2 - improve files dispatching in transcode feature (do not use decode thread as the default thread) - clean and use languages files - empty OMGAUDIO folder when building the database # Todo for v0.3a3 - fix up OMA support for old generations - check all wanted transcode files support (MP2, WAVE, AAC,...?) # Todo for v0.3b - tag read ability (FLAC, OGG, MPC, WMA,... ...) # Todo for v0.3 Unbug the program (any bug) If you have any comments, don't hesitate to tell me !! Other features not planned to this roadmap should be in progress: embedded player, cover support and playlist support. I don't have news of the corresponding developers about their works, please contact me. If one of these features is ready before the release of the stable version 0.3, it could be added in the roadmap !!! ################################# ############ Library Sylvain doesn't have internet at his new place, so he is quite absent since a long time, but he should get a connection shortly. I don't really know how far they are from a first release. I let Sylvain comment this point. ################################# ############ amaroK plugin Last news I had about this point was that the base structure of the plugin is quite ready and it's waiting the library. Mephx, if you have any comments, you are free to make them ;-) ################################# ############ Logo and graphic charter The logo has been defined (as you may all know!) and the graphic charter should be in progress. Pahra please tell me if your work is going well. ################################# ############ Website The development of the website should be in progress. Ulluss please tell me if you have started or if you encounter any trouble. ################################# ############ Conclusion As you see, this e-mail is just to remain that the project is still alive and even if it grows slowly, it grows !! I know that I haven't be so present these lasts weeks, but don't hesitate to ask me anything !! I'm here to help you to be productive in the project. If you don't feel comfortable with anything, please tell me !! See you all and thanks to you for your participation ;-) Cheers Nicolas |
