While i was looking for ways to add imap support to Whisper, the easy way, i came across this lib - http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/download.html#libsylph . It supports imap, pop3, smtp and its only dependencies are glib and openssl. My question does it dependency on glib mean Whisper be rewritten to use this lib as a backend? It would mean a big boost in terms of funcionality. Can glib be included in the Syllable cd? One other thing i've been looking at is archiver source, it has some bugs under 0.6.5 like not supporting blank spaces and some others with pipes (sometimes if i don't close the application it doesn't open files correctly). So i started looking to alternatives :) Like i said on the forum i've ported avfs which gives us support for most of the formats , through command line wrappers. Is avfs ok, or would be a C++ rewrite of the code , present on archiver, giving us a nice API to handle this kind of formats? Something like: using namespace archiver; archive my_compressed_file = new archive("some file.zip"); namescpace archiver { class archive{ public: virtual void listFiles()=0; virtual void extractFiles(,string pathToExtract)=0; virtual void extractSelectedFile(string pathToExtract)=0; virtual void addNewFile(string file_to_add)=0; virtual void compress_dir(string dir)=0; string getCurrentFormat(); private: void findArchiveFormat(string path); string current_format; string filepath; } } My idea would be to create an abstract datatype archive , which could be subclassed to add new types. I'm not a C++ expert so if u have comments, corrections, please let me know. |

I think I misspoke in the forum.? The address returned from the BAR is the physical address that the aperture is supposed to reside at.? The chipset knows that any time there is a read or write to one of the addresses that's within the aperture range, then the request needs to be looked up in the GATT (or GART if you prefer).? The GATT gives the correct address for the corresponding aperture address.? This is because the aperture address is intentionally above all actual physical memory that's installed in the system.? The actual memory that's occupying that space lays within the normal physical memory, but it's not laid out linearly.? The GATT makes the addresses appear to be linear.? With that in mind, if the address has already been accessed, then it's data lies within a cache that's inside of the chipset itself.? That's why the area has to be created with the address that's given to you from the BAR.? I was trying to side-step using the create_area()/remap_area() combo by using the feature of create_area() that allows you to tell it up front where the physical memory is.? I think earlier that I said (in the forum) that the BAR gave us a virtual address.? I'm not sure, but if I said that, then I want to correct that right now. Dee Sharpe |

Oh that's perfect, thanks. I havn't seen a DMA error in a very long time, though. Looking at your configuration it's almost identical to a few I have here: Seagate hard drive, Lite-On CD-ROM connected to an Intel ICH5 controller. It's about as bog-standard as you can get. I'm happy to announce that the latest development build of Syllable 0.6.6 has been published, along with the binary and source to Webster Alpha 1. Note that the source for Webster is particularly big as it includes the entire WebCore & JavaScriptCore sources too, which is currently a necessity. Hopefully we'll be able to slim that down a little soon for those of you who just want to use WebView or hack on Webster. If you don't want the hassle of two downloads, the next development will be the first to replace ABrowse with Webster in the default installation. -- Vanders http://www.syllable.org |

As many of you already know I have been working on cleaning up the WebCore port and writing a new browser to replace the venerable ABrowse. I am happy to announce that I have now finished the first Alpha version of that new browser, and I am proud to introduce Webster. Webster is a new browser which has been written from the ground up in conjunction with the WebView library which implements the common classes which form the interface to WebCore. As a result the code is much cleaner and easier to maintain, and will be an excellent basis for adding new features as we continue to develop and extend our WebCore port. This first version of Webster is equally functional as the existing ABrowse, with the minor exception of a working Find dialog. However it does support the additional features already: o Proper support for both Tabs and Windows o Middle-click on a link opens the link in a new Tab o Basic history support (for the current session only) o Fixes for some of the smaller yet irritating bugs that every knows and hates! >From the users perspective things are not massively different from the last version of ABrowse, although Webster certainly feels much nicer to use. For developers who wish to help extend and improve Webster or who wish to embed a WebView into their own applications, you'll find the new code much nicer to work with. Now I've told you all of this, I'm afraid you'll all have to wait just a little longer to get your hands on it: for best results you have to use the latest development build, so we have to wait until Kaj is back from SylCon! The source will also be made available at the same time for those of you who are interested. In the meantime, here are a few screenshots of Webster in action for you all to compare to ABrowse. Personally I don't do this because my development machines tend to get rebuilt frequently with E.g. new development builds, so I keep the configuration to a minimum, but this is a time-saver for anyone with a stable machine . -- Vanders http://www.syllable.org |

Does cvs on syllable respect the .cvsrc file? If so, add this to it: diff -u rdiff -u Any "cvs diff" will then automatically have -u in it's options. (And, obviously, if you're not doing your CVS operations on syllable itself, then your CVS should respect some form of config file...)
