This helps me out greatly.? Glitz started out as a GL backend to Cairo.? Cairo is integrated & becomes the drawing medium for the Appserver, then this falls right in line with the original setup that I presented.? Eventually, all that would be needed is to port Glitz to integrate it all with the GL drawing layer....instant hardware GL for everybody --in theory. Nice. You said that Cairo is not accelerated, but I assume it is theoretically possible to accelerate it? Could we not create a Cairo backend that sits on top of the existing Layer/DisplayDriver code to provide accelerated drawing methods where available? We could then "rewire" the existing View drawing methods to call the Cairo drawing code, which in turn would be accelerated just as they were before. The advantage is that there would be no "special case" of having to choose to use Cairo, although the disadvantage is that all drawing must then go via.
