Offer ability to draw lines, arrows, basic 2D shapes (similar to what you would find in Microsoft Powerpoint, word, etc.) Lines should be able to be colored and have the weight (thickness, dashing, etc.) and color changed. Drawn lines should have ability to set beginning and ending height (similar to current 'Wall' feature). Lines should be displayed in 3D view with proper xyz position (but can be left as "2D" objects. Lines should be able to penetrate anything (walls, objects, etc.)

Use case (why): by allowing the ability to draw lines with different characteristics, the user can create numerous features as per their needs - plumbing diagrams, electrical diagrams, framing diagrams, etc. By setting walls transparent, user can very effectively lay out a whole design. It's up to the user to define the line (based on color, weighting, etc) and create a key as to what they mean. This would satisfy numerous feature requests in the database.

this feature would be really nicely enhanced with basic color selection availability also.
If you are looking for a work around until this feature is made available (if it is):
Currently I am using a "box" from the Miscellaneous category with depth and height set at 1 (adjusting elevation) for horizontal, and width and depth set at 1 for vertical, for doing electrical and plumbing schematics in a plan, which works quite well when you apply a color to the box, and allows for a 3d display of wring or plumbing configurations.(this works really well when the preferences are set to "top view" for the icons.

The ability to draw lines was added in version 5.0 and improved in further versions.

Polylines are great! But sometimes we could use:

    • An arrow
    • A circle (filled or not)
    • A closed polygon
    • An arc
    • A callout (combination arrow + text)
