Does it happen for any imported model or does it work sometimes correctly?
In version 6.5.2, the way these icons are created was changed (they use offscreen images instead of screenshots). Could you try temporarily how it behaves with version 6.5?

This bug was fixed in version 7.0.2 where icons are made from screenshots rather than from offscreen images. This implies that the 3D preview shown at the last step of the Furniture import wizard must be at screen and not hidden by other windows.
