Used Print to PDF, but output is not openable on MAC or Windows. The only way I could open it is to save if from my email first and then open it with a PDF viewer on my Debian desktop. Evidently the file format is outdated or corrupted.

You asked for OS (which should have been part of the bug) but I then gave it too.
You asked if I did some other type of print, but that is not what I'm trying to do. Nowhere did I read that a person cannot use the regular menu items to print a PDF. You should have said that the user must use a demo only.
Worse yet, why only use PDF? That could have been a common type of image file format.

By the way, the program can't output to SVG correctly either. I shows a checkerboard background.
What version and system do you use?
Did you try with a demo available from File > New from demo menu item?
The version noted and Debian 11 and No.
