Hi. I will try out that last patch asap. I have been thinking about how to make sweep into a multitrack editor with a good Linux slant. A lot of the other programs for other os's have a very set gui environment to display the tracks. They tend to be very rigid looking and take up a lot of space on your desktop because each track has to be seperately visualised. What I am starting to envisage is much more similar to the GIMPs' use of layers. I'll try to explain in a straightforward way ;-] Basically, Sweeps' sample gui is the main work space. Instead of having a seperate track for each sample there is only one work space. The tracks are able to be put down anywhere in the window and they are lined up with the time bar at the top of the window. Kind of like a magnetic board with each track being a magnet that you can stick anywhere you want. The only thing that has to be taken into consideration when placing a magnet(sample) is the time at which it starts. I don't know how much Sweep has already allowed for this idea but because it is so similar to the gimp I'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to incorporate;-] Perhaps the samples could be treated as images, or maybe that is unnecassary. The idea of being able to add or remove samples at will is crucial for this to work. It will also be very useful if the window could scroll up and down as well as side to side and even better if it would do it automatically. For example if the user moves a sample past the edge of the screen it will automatically scroll in that direction. Each sample would essentially be a seperate track and they could be randomly colored and/or numbered for ease of use. Sweep would have to remember each layer/track so they could easily be moved, deleted, filtered... I believe this would make Sweep stand out as an audio editor as it would be much more intuitive to use than anything else I have seen. Does anyone have anything to add to this idea?
