Unfortunately, I use a laptop: very limited ability to change out the sound system. As I stated, my sound system seems to check out okay on local resource tasks. I have noticed that my Pidgin event sounds have flaked out on me ... sometimes I get sound events, but mostly not so. I am thinking it might be a good idea to backup my data, reinstall Ubuntu, and try again. After two years working with Ubuntu, I am starting to get the hang of many of the more difficult system tasks (including some diagnostic tasks). Having Qtel on my laptop would be so nice. However, having recently earned my General Class ticket, I am preoccupied with getting my HF system up and running. I have been focusing on figuring out how to construct the lowest cost antenna that is likely to give me the greatest flexibility across the bands with all of the limitations that are imposed by the configuration of my home, my property, the electrical lines that are on the street, and a second floor location for my shack (electrical ground and radio ground issues) ... you get the idea. I think I have settled on an inverted V with a central support structure of copper pipe core inside a PVC pipe outside attached to the outside of my house with the bottom of the pipe driven several feet into the ground attached to several lateral lines attached to copper rods driven several feet into the ground. I will get back to the Qtel problem, and when I resolve it, I'll report my findings here. Thank you for Qtel and svxlink.
