I saw this on the SVE Facebook Site, so I thought I would add it here. In JAVA, you can configure auto-completion to pop-up without hitting Ctrl+Space. It appears to be highly configurable, all the way from updating every character you type, all the way through Ctrl+Space triggered.

One "trigger" is the . character for example.
