Hello! Toying around with MIDI software, I created a "remix" of one of the SuperTux tunes, Forest2. It has a completely different atmosphere so I can't really imagine using it somewhere in the game, but it might be interesting anyway; so here's the link: http://www.tu-bs.de/~y0019680/music/na_forest2-remix.ogg Feedback welcome! :) Marek |

Nice sound stunt. It sounds dark, like the music of a dangerous hidden cave. In my head I could hear some groove beat percussions kicking in. Made me feel like something was comming to get me. I could see this tune just before we get to meet a new SuperTux Badguy(TM). > > Hello! > Toying around with MIDI software, I created a "remix" of one of the > SuperTux tunes, Forest2. did you really trade mark that, or is it just for effect? On Fri, 18 Feb 2005 15:13:44 -0500 (EST) "S.Groundwater" <sl...@gl...> wrote: > SuperTux Badguy(TM). > |

The TM was just for effect. The term SuperTux Badguys has been in use long before I showed up, I make no claim. I was mocking the over use of TM on common every day words. Bad Guys are obviously common. IMO, trademarks on common words is right up there with software patents, Bad Stuff (TM:) > did you really trade mark that, or is it just for effect? > On Fri, 18 Feb 2005 15:13:44 -0500 (EST) > "S.Groundwater" <sl...@gl...> wrote: > >> SuperTux Badguy(TM). >> > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide > Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. > Discover which products truly live up to the hype. Well it does indeed sound more like a piece for an rpg now, but it might still be usefull for places where we progress in the story. In general you might try touching up your pieces with some effects/more different instruments to make them more interesting. In this piece a bit of hall to the piano would be a good idea I think. Would also be interesting to experiment with oboe, saxophone or flute as lead voice with the same piano/string background. Greetings, Matze |

They probably won't use this one, however, unless they want an easter egg reference to SuperTux somewhere. A nice place for it in SuperTux might be during the ending credits; what do you think? >In general you might try touching up your pieces with some effects/more >different instruments to make them more interesting. Although I'm not a big fan of effects, a little bit definitely can't hurt. Marek |

Vaguely reminds me of the music in the second level of SMB. It could do with a drum track, though. Hard to explain exactly what I'm thinking of. In fact, give me a few minutes... OK, attached is a RoseGarden file with some hastily-thrown-together drums in. RoseGarden seems to be a very nice tool... Playing the midi file and the ogg at the same time will explain what I think it needs better than words: $ ogg123 na_forest2-remix.ogg & pmidi forest2-percussion.mid -- Thanks, Richard |

The drum track you made is very similar to the one I used in the original Forest2. I took it over from the mod when I re-wrote the song in Rosegarden, but I removed it later because I thought it destroyed a lot of the atmosphere that is created by the piano and cello sounds. IMHO the song doesn't need any percussion, or just very very little - depending a little on how it should be used (if it's used somewhere at all) - but as far as percussion goes, I personally like it the way it is. Are there more opinions about that? Marek |

This is great! Perhaps there should be an area of the forest world that's been burnt/destroyed by Nolok, and this music plays there. It would add a nice dramatic touch to the game. |

Maybe it could be used in a cutscene between normal forest and ghost forest where it is revealed that Nolok is in some way responsible for the forest turning evil. I think it'll also fit during the outro/credits sequence. Marek |

that music is spooky. I keep getting it stuck in my head when I explore the woods near our house.
