So, I checked out the latest Super Tux from CVS.  Looking so much better!
I love the map interface. :^)

One thing I'd like to suggest, though...  when you beat a level with
a large or fire-capable Tux, when you start the next level, he should not
start out small again!  He should retain his powers. :^)

Other than that, I've only gotten to level 2 (JUST started playing), and the
game seems very smooth!  It feels more 'playable' than last week. :^)

I'm liking some of the enemies I'm seeing, too (bouncing snowballs,
helicopter snowballs, etc.) :)
