******************************** * SUE Newsletter November 2009 * ******************************** SUE is short for Screenreader & Usability Extensions, an effort to make screen reading on Linux more usable. SUE is based on the former Linux Screen Reader (LSR), an excellent platform for all kinds of assistive applications. SUE itself is the first of those assistive applications, namely a screen reader for graphical user interfaces on the GNOME desktop. SUE is available either from SVN trunk or in version 0.5.0 from our download section at Sourceforge.net. Documentation including installation instructions may also be found at http://sue.sourceforge.net. * News: ******* * General . You are now notified when copying (Ctrl+C) or cutting (Ctrl+X) anything. . You may ask for the version of SUE on the console using the following commands: sue -v sue --version * Speech . SUE now has a master controller for speech settings like volume, rate and pitch for all voices. . Background information are now output with speech. * Desktop / Nautilus You are now receiving information upon selecting or unselecting objects on the desktop or in the nautilus file browser. * Bugfixes: *********** Bug: When setting focus on the desktop, SUE often output information on an unfocused element. This is fixed now. Bug 2878806: SUE did not output the labels of spin boxes. Evolution bugs: . In the setup assistant the timezone table cell and text field contents were read twice. . Because of an error in a function call SUE did not output item roles. . The description of tab pages in the evolution settings dialogs were not always read correctly. This problem occured because of some stubborn events. . SUE did not read some of the warning dialogs because of their customized build. . When opening the 'Save All Attachments' dialog, the title was read twice. . The combo boxes in evolution are all custom build and don't always work like the standard boxes. This made for some interesting problems that we had to solve. The combo boxes work now. . Navigating into the mail header from the mail body was not always possible. All these Evolution bugs are now fixed. Bug: The shortcuts to increase or decrease the speech rate were broken and needed to be fixed. Bug: The output for selected text was incorrect in some cases. This is now fixed. Bug: In the Hungarian version of SUE did not output the time when (Alt +Shift+F12) was pressed. This was due to a wrong translation of the frame name which is now fixed. Bug: SUE was unable to handle insertions by pressing two keys at the same time. This is now fixed. Bug: SUE crashed when a key was pressed during the startup process. This problem was solved. Bug: Terminal crashed upon start when SUE was running in Ubuntu 9.10. This is now fixed. Bug: GKeybindingScript was broken and needed to be fixed. Bug: In OpenOffice.org Calc SUE did not output 'formula' when the user navigated on a table cell with a formula and the "Function List" is activated. This problem was solved. * Current work: *************** . Right now we are doing extensive tests on SUE to fix as many problems as possible. . The documentation updates continue both in the German and the English wiki. If you are interested in testing SUE but experience problems at any point, please don't hesitate to send a message to this mailing list. If you find a bug, you may add it to our bug tracker on SourceForge.net or send an e-mail with your bug description to sue...@it.... A few notes on how to submit a bug in either of those ways and which information to include are available on both our project wiki at http://www.sue-projekt.de (in German) and our documentation page at SourceForge.net (in English). To request a feature, you may use the same means of communication. Thanks a lot for your tests, comments, and feedback! The SUE team |
