Hello and thank you for a great program. I wonder if you know why drag and drop doesn't work when I start the program via a macroboard? It works if I start it directly with the EXE file. Kind regards, Thore from Sweden

It seems to be a codec issue. And it's possible to be caused by your latest L-Lite codec pack. What do I do when all things are right? Avoid to update software. Mainly this kind of thing that is always a big nightmare: Codecs. Unfortunately, I can't help you. I hope you can solve it. If so, please come back here and tell what did you do.

I have just installed SW 6.0b on my PC (Win 10). When I am trying to open a mkv video file (and other video formats) I am getting this message: "The following error (Ezerodivide) was derrived from object TfrmMain (frmMain): "Floating point division by zero" Please write to subtitleworkshop@gmail.com informing what you were doing when this error occured. Press OK to continue, and Cancel to exit the program." I have installed the latest K-lite codec pack 18.0.0 Mega on the computer. Any suggestions?...
I could install and open Subtitle Workshop 2.51 but I cannot open video .it is saying that format mp4 is not valid

Is there a way to remove all instances of position formatting tags: {\an1} through {\an9} ? Currently I'm performing nine different search and replace commands, but it would be better if there's a way to remove the all at once.
framrate is 25 fps, sadly now i restarted my pc, and now i cant even synchronize the same movie with subtitles. So theres nothing to show now.
What you're saying is very weird and unexpected. Once you had exported your subs, times are all the same to be played by VLC or WMP. What is the frame rate of the movie? But despite of that, no sense to get out of sync problems at all. Give more details, screenshots, etc.
no thats not the case, just tried classic windows media player, same shit as VLC - so how do i export synchonizes subtitles from subtitleworkshop program? to be correctly displayed on VLC Media Player?
addon to my post: what is strange, that when i checked exported srt file, from subtitle workshop and compared timings to those in subtitle worksho, its indentical, so maybe i am exporting subtitles correctly, but the problem is with vlc media player? how do you think guys?
Hello, i have a movie called pledge this year 2006, starring paris hilton, and also i have a subtitles for that movie, in the program subtitle workshop, everything is going by the plan, subs are well synchronized in facet i havent seen beter sychronized subtitles, like in this example, so how do i export or save this brilliantly synchronizes job of mine? cuz if i save those subs, like .srt file, i get completely nuts out of the sync, when i play this movie, on my VLC Player
Uh oh... I just realized that there is already the newer version that just does exactly what I want by default. So please consider this discussion closed.

Hello, I just dowloaded Subtitle Workshop. I have only subtitled videos with CaptionHub before and want to edit the subtitle files I already have with Subtitle Workshop. So I wonder if it's possible to make Subtitle Workshop behave like CaptionHub, which automatically changes the corresponding subtitle on the editor as the subtitle shown on the video preview. For example, If I play a video until it reaches the first subtitle, I want the editor to go to the first subtitle. Then, the video shows the...

Perhaps you do not need Unicode: Click on settings --> settings --> general -> charsets -> change original charset to "GB2312", and reload subtitle. Saving also should be Ok then.

Hi, Onomatopeira. Yes, screenshot image I post came from WS 6.0b. Below is a larger image where you can see the upper menu. 👇
Hello. I came here to expose a problem almost the same as Val's. My SW 6.0b program (which had been working perfectly) crashed when trying to load videos (no matter what the format/length of the videos) and when I was trying to make a sync ( eg via the Sync Point). I used so far the VLC Player without any problems. I tried to reinstall SW 6.0b and restore defaults, but the problem continued. After reading your messages, I was more relaxed to realize that I wasn't the only one to have this problem,...
Yes! And thanks for your help, really! ;-)
Glad to know that you could solve your problem. 🙂
WOW!!! It's working now! I tried changing the video rendering and now it's working!! And it's VERY strange, because that's obviously one of the first things I tried initially, but only NOW it's working. Thanks!!!!
Sorry, but it's hard to see the problem without reproduce the same here. Try to change render engine: And ask Mr. Google
Hi, Do you see anything special that could be the problem here? Thanks!
Hey, thanks so much for your help! But it's NOT just one video I have problems with, it's ALL of the mp4 and mov I tried. I see from Media Info some videos had the AVC codec. This is my log from the Codec Tweak tool. Thanks! Hey, Thanks so much for your help! So, I tried one .AVi and it works! According to Media Info, it is an MPEG-4 Visual Microsoft PAL. But a different one didn't work. And I don't have other types of videos. Here are the installed codecs and the AVI that didn't work on SW.

Put the media informations here. Did you tried other containers? I mean, AVI, MKV, TS, FLV, WEBM, MWV, WEBM? Take a look at your codec enviroment. My system has K-Lite bundle:
Hey, thanks so much for your answer. The thing is that all the other programs are working perfectly. And some of them have complicated settings, and I don't want to mess them up. SW always worked fine before this. Also the huge loading times are strange. And the machine starts like working hard to load it. Anyways, I installed Matroska (Haali) and nothing changed.
I'd like to help, but I never had such kind of error. And don't know how to reproduce it here. I would bet on problems with codecs, Haali-splitter, VobSub settings. And suggest to try other video containers, after analyse them with MediaInfo.
Hey! I was so happy using SW 6.0 e /12, which finally has UTF8!!!! And then, I can't load any videos because of the EZeroDivide error. I try to load a video and I get this error always. It happens with mov and mp4 videos, not sure if with some others too. And also, the program takes a LONG time to load. Sometimes more than one minute! My computer is an ASUS 8 G RAM. I have all the codecs and videos are working fine with other programs. Can you help, please???? Thanks!

When run with the video my subtitle file is showing each line twice , one on top each other. This happens all the way through the video. I can't see why this should be happening. I've not seen it before. I've run it through Subtitle Workshop but I can't see a way to stop this , or see what's causing it. I tried renaming the file and running it against another video , but had the same result. Each line is duplicated on the screen. The text and the timings in the .srt are accurate , with each line...

Since you are on a public forum, it would be polite to keep the original question and its solution. Certainly, there are many people around with the same problem. You came here for help, but if you delete the question and solution, you're excluding people like you from the road to solution. Remember this.

That's OK. So, no way to try to help you to fix the subs.
Unfortunately in this instance it's a subscription site , so it couldn't be opened from here without the login details.
Where is the link of the online video?
Ok Thanks. I don't know how the start timecodes became zero in this way. I don't think there is an easy fix beyond starting again. (: Thanks again...
Too many problems here. 1. Your subtitle has LF CR more than allowed. Between timecodes, it's allowed just one LF CR. 2. Almost all start timecodes begins zeroed. You must fix them. I'm attaching your sample after fix LF CR error. But you have to fix all the start timecodes.

Hi - Thanks for getting back. I did attach a sample above. I'll put it again below. All the text in the srt is correct , and in the right order. The timing seems to be set as running from the line above , rather than from the very beginning of the file. When watching online they all showed correctly. Somehow in the attached srt they need to be added to each other consecutively to get the correct timing to run offline. Grateful for your help.
It's not possible to advice without a sample of the problem.
I downloaded an mp4 , and the .srt with it. It seems to have strange timings with it. They worked when running online , but not offline. Is there a way to fix this and recalibrate the timings for offline use ? Grateful for any advice.
Would you recommend using Subtitle Workshop XE 6.01 r7 since it has a built in Waveform?
No. SW has no waveform resource. And there is no way to add it. Sorry.
Is audio waveform available on Subtitle Workshop 6.0? If yes, can anyone tell me how to use it? If not, is there any way to add an audio waveform to Subtitle Workshop 6.0? Thanks in advance.
thx, for the info. could not find the programs (my bad) but your comments together with the good old internet came across a workaround that seems to work. Using libreoffice calc to change the code and then wordpad to write a txt and then jubler to make the subtitles
Yes, 2.5x version do not support unicode.
Hi, Luc. Subtitle Workshop, as far as I know, don't work with UNICODE characters. Bedazzle, Spiridonov or Kameleon may clarify that better. Your files seems to be 00936 ANSI/OEM Simplified Chinese encoding.

Hi, I am trying to add chinese subtitles to a dvd movie. I started by downloading a chinese translation SRT file, and importing it. As i open the file it is on default, but not in chinese. As i change the font to a chinese font (big5) the text changes to chinese characters. But as i save the file to an ass file, and then burn it with handbrake into a new file, the subtitels are in the "default", and not in chinese. What am i doing wrong?
Thank you very much for the program! Hello, thank you very much for a good program under a free open source license! Added a program to a Russian-language site about free software, here is the link. The project is interesting, so please don't abandon it!
Okay, you are rihgt I tried many times in Notepad but it was not working. Thanks for your help.
I really don't know what had happened on your computer, but both files you attached here are empty. You can see by yourself: open them using Notepad and see.
The original file
How it is empty because it openned during 10 days, evey day. How is it empty now? What do you thin is the reason? I will atteched again the file from my computer. Also the original file same. It has same error. I atteched both of them.
Hi. There are many reasons to get that error message. But you could get the worst... I mean, your attached sample is an empty file, completely empty. Something could corrupt your file. SRT is a plain text file. You can analyse it using a text editor, like Notepad. Do you have a backup of the original file? Attached is a capture of the content:
Hi! I am making a translation in the program for nearly 10 days. There is no problem until today but today I can't open it. It says that "......file is a bad subtitle or unsupported format". I tried many ways but it didn't work. The subtitle file is in the attached file. I have to take bac these translataions please help.

Is it possible to run Subtitle Workshop 2.51 or 2.52 in Windows 10? I know Windows 6.0 does run in Windows 10, but many commands are different from those in 2.51. And in general it has some characteristics that make version 6.0 not as practical as 2.51.
Let's read together what program help says: "5.1 Spell check This spell check uses Microsoft Word's spell check engine, connecting to it through OLE technology. Thus, at least Microsoft Word 97 is required. To spell check a subtitle, just load it and press the "Tools/Spell check" menu ([F7]). I wonder how can I do to load a spelling dictionary in version 2.51, if possible. If dictionaries can only be used with SW later versions, please tell me which and I will use that version just to check spelling. I already have three dictionaries in text format.
Thank you for come back and to post a solution for the problem. 👍
The problem is fixed. I reset the playback rate to 400% and then back to 100% and it started playing perfectly. Thanks.
Installed K-lite Codec Pack but Mp4 playback is extreme slow motion MP4 playback is normal in vlc player
