Moved to here from the posts in general discussion. Solved in version 6.1.9.

From Seagate:

I downloaded "Subtitle workshop classic v.6.1.6 portable.zip"

  1. I unzipped the portable version.
  2. I launched SubtitleWorkshop.exe.
  3. Getting an error: https://i.postimg.cc/YqmYY1mN/Hhj.png

Addendum: I have downloaded "Subtitle workshop classic v.6.1.6 portable.zip" several times to check that everything is ok with the file download, but... you have an answer why the program won't start.

Kameleon_ - 2022-12-30

Hi,

A question: if you press 'Ok' in the error window (to continue instead of to exit) does the main window of the program looks ok or is there anything wrong?
Thanks in advance.**

p.s. sorry for the delay in my replies but I have been sick lately,

seagate - 2022-12-30

Hello

I pressed the "OK" button 12 times in a row. Then this window appeared: https://i.postimg.cc/vZ5HmnRr/aaaaaaaaaa.png

This is obtained when testing with your attachment from your opinion.

Kameleon_ - 2022-12-31

Hi Seagate, I see in the error that SubtitleWokkshop.exe resides on your desktop in the SubtitleWorkshop folder. Is the subfolder "SubtitleAPI" present in that folder? If so, then Subtitle Workshop should be able to initialize SubtitleAPI. Apparently it can not find it.. The SubtitleWorkshop.exe program only works well if all other elements are present. It can not work stand alone.

seagate - 2022-12-31

I understood you. I'm testing again. I added the folder "SubtitleAPI" - it contains only one file - "SubtitleAPI.dll",

Running "SubtitleWorkshop.exe" (that's the file you added separately here) again gives the same error, but the address has been changed to "007C11D": https://i.postimg.cc/C5Jxf02s/Assa.png

Kameleon_ - 2022-12-31

Thanks Seagate, This is important information. I will look further.

p.s. How come that SubtitleWorkshop.exe was present on its own (e.g. without SubtitleAPI)? It should be present in an installation folder where e.g. version 6.1.6 or 6.1.7 (or an older version) was installed otherwise it will not work for sure.

seagate - 2022-12-31

Well, you had attached a single file above - with no explanation of what you wanted to be in the folder. But... we already clarified that today and I checked what you asked for. But unfortunately - the problem is real for many.

The strange thing is that the problem for many is expressed in the appearance of this window, and for many it is the same - by pressing the "OK" button 12 times - the program starts. Why is it pressed exactly 12 times...

And yet - why are we writing in this topic when it is wrong?! We should write in the topic for version 6.1.7, as it is the current one, even though both versions in a row are unusable.

Kameleon_ - 2023-01-02

Hi Seagate, thanks for your remarks.

The strange thing is that the problem for many is expressed in the appearance of this window, and for many it is the same - by pressing the "OK" button 12 times - the program starts. Why is it pressed exactly 12 times...

Yes indeed. That is strange. I have not yet an explanation for that. I will try to figure it out.

And yet - why are we writing in this topic when it is wrong?! We should write in the topic for version 6.1.7, as it is the current one, even though both versions in a row are unusable.

Both versions 6.1.6 and 6.1.7 are unusable. The comments should be given in the 6.1.7 thread.

seagate - 2023-01-02

Kameleon_, when you need new tests, write and within ~10 minutes I will answer you in this thread, so you can follow.

Xenos Latinos - 2022-12-24

Hi Kameleon,

unfortunately I have the same problem that's reported above, with the new portable version 6.1.6.
I tried opening it as administrator, rebuilding the ini file, but the same error message keeps popping up...

Kameleon_ - 2022-12-27

Sorry to all for the inconveniences. I could not reproduce the error here, but I did suspect the usage of a new SW component, so I removed it again. Could you please test the version 6.1.7?
Thanks in advance.

Should be Ok in version 6.1.7.

Xenos Latinos - 2022-12-27

I tried v.6.1.7 portable, but unfortunately the problem persists.

I'm on Windows 10 Home, 22H2, fully updated.

seagate - 2022-12-27
You are posting an opinion in the wrong thread. Version 6.1.7 is in the other thread.
Anonymous - 2022-12-28

seagate - 2022-12-27

Kameleon_ - 2022-12-30

Hi, could you please test the attached version? I can not reproduce the error here. In this version I removed some of the changes I made (non functional ones tough).
Thanks in advance.

p.s. sorry for my late reactions, I have been sick lately.

Xenos Latinos - 2022-12-31

Hi Kameleon,

Unfortunately the error message keeps popping up, and it takes 12 clicks on "OK" to bypass it and start SW.

Get well soon, happy new year's eve!

Lassgabe - 2022-12-27

i can confirm the error here too.
But the F7 is working here with hunspell :)

Anonymous - 2022-12-27

Portable 6.1.7 crashes, won't start. Same as above. Using a very old, non-AVX CPU by the way. Version 6.1.3 works normally.

Hi Seagate, thanks for the very fast feedback.
Could you confirm to me that version 6.1.5 was still ok? Thanks in advance!

seagate
seagate - 2023-03-02

Hello, Kameleon_

I confirm that Subtitle workshop classic v.6.1.5 portable is running without problem.

Just in case, I also deliberately tried Subtitle workshop classic v.6.1.6 portable - but it doesn't start and the same error window appears.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-03

Thanks for the quick reply. This is valuble information.

seagate - 2023-03-03

I suggest you write in the first opinion that the current version is also unusable.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-03

Done.

Anonymous - 2023-03-03

Can confirm same as seagate, error on startup on all versions newer than 6.1.5

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-03

Thanks for the confirmation.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-03

Apparently there are still large problems during startup. These problems popped up in version 6.1.6. I can not reproduce them, irrespectable of what I do to make them appear. I reviewed the changes in v6.1.6. thouroughly, but I can not find the reason for the error.

So... I can do only one thing:
Seagate and Anonymous, if I present here some intermediate versions with some changes done in v6.1.6 left out, are you willing to test them (only against the startup error of course)?
I will not make official releases of those tests, I will only attach them here in the discussions.
Thanks!

seagate - 2023-03-03

Of course I'll chime in and help test the portable versions.

I'm surprised you can't reproduce the problem with launching the program.

@Kameleon_, I'm using Windows 7 x64 (the most mainstream OS and the most user-friendly). @Kameleon_ and what OS are you using?! I'm interested because it could be that the problem is only related to users using OS Windows 7. I'm assuming that (I could be wrong).

Lassgabe - 2023-03-03

Not oS. i tired on win 10 and 11. Same error unfortunately. Something else will be.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-04

Thanks.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-04

Here is the first testversion (version 6.1.x test 1) with a number of changes (w.r.t. version 6.1.5) left out. It is meant for checking of the startup problems still are there or not.
Thanks in advance for testing!

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-04

Hi Seagate, thanks for testing.

Normally one does not see such an error, the Test SW is a debug version however (which shows those kind of errors).

What happens if you press OK? Are there any following errors? Are the 'old' 6.1.6 errors gone?

p.s.Is there a 32 bits VLC installed on your system? I assume not?

Last edit: Kameleon_ 2023-03-04

seagate - 2023-03-04

By pressing OK - the program starts: https://i.postimg.cc/7hKj8cSW/sjsj.png

"VLC" - no, I don't use this program.

I am correcting you - v.6.1.5 has no bugs whatsoever. From version 6.1.6 the errors started.

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-04

Thanks. The problems indeed started from 6.1.6 onwards. I corrrecred my Post. Glad to see those errors are gone in the test 1 version. I will make more test versiins reintroducing the 6.1.6 changes one by one.
Thanks in advance for testing!

Kameleon_ - 2023-03-08

This is the 2nd testversion (version 6.1.x test 2). Please have a look.
