This is an interesting topic; I recently came across similar discussions myself. Sometimes unexpected things pop up in these threads, including various online entertainment platforms. For example, I tried Sky Crown Casino https://sky-crown-casino.org/ it was generally a good experience: lots of games, loads quickly, and is convenient to play on your phone. But of course, to each their own, I'm just sharing my experience in case it's useful to someone else in the context of this discussion.
I'm not sure this is a bug, but maybe... If have a basic srt without time it load just the first line. in the very old version is like 2.51, 6.0e loaded multiples lines. I mean the "without time" are 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:00,000 in all lines. If i open that kind of srt it just load the first line. I have hint. I notice when i load a srt than runing something ordering by timecode script with load. Maybe that's what's causing this problem. (would be nice a swich off option anyway for that) Very simple...
Subtitle Workshop Classic is still a solid tool for basic subtitle editing, especially if you want something lightweight and easy to understand. It may look a bit old, but for syncing, timing fixes, and quick edits, it still gets the job done without needing heavy software. For many users, simplicity is actually a big plus. And if you like to relax after working on subtitles or just want some entertainment in your free time, you can check out Jeetbuzztop.com. It’s easy to use, runs smoothly, and...
I can think of a new feature for Audio Wave: add automatic speech recognition and display the recognized words on a timeline (something like automatically generated karaoke subtitles). This would greatly improve orientation when subtitles are very out of sync. Thank you.
EMO AI Desktop Pet is a very interesting and original desktop friend — it behaves like a small robot pet, reacting to sounds and movements. Such devices bring a little joy and comfort to everyday life. In my opinion, it is a great choice for anyone interested in technology. But sometimes after such entertainment you need a little excitement — then I bet on the Mostbet website, have fun and have a chance to win.
That's not a bad suggestions. I'll see what I can do.
This feature has been already implemented. Settings, "Seekbar hovering". Alt+E if you use the default shortcuts.
I don't know if I'm the only one who finds the video scrolling feature, which works by simply hovering the mouse over the timeline, irritating. This feature, added in version 6, is the reason why I still use version 2.51. Why does it bother me? I'm trying now to work in the Audio Wave window (SW 6.3.4), I double-click on the title to synchronize the SW, I move the mouse to the SW window, I accidentally hover over the timeline and the position shifts somewhere, I don't know where I am. Please make...
I suggest adding keyboard shortcuts for Audio Play/Pause, Audio Stop, Previous Subtitle, Next subtitle (changeable). - New buttons spring (for example) 300ms forward/backward (with keyboard shorcuts) - Enable the Previous Subtitle and Next Subtitle buttons in the gaps between subtitles - Allow moving the end of one subtitle simultaneously with the beginning of another subtitle (for example, by dragging the mouse + CTRL key) - Display the subtitle number in the Audio Wave window - Enable saving subtitles...
I can replicate the problem. I also found the source code of 2.51, it does have similar source code. I'm trying to continue the work of Kameleon. I'm not a programmer. Founding a solution could take a long time.
After my last post, did you get the same result as me or is it just me experiencing it? As for UruSoft versions, I thought you were aware that this was originally UruSoft's program for many years, then development was taken over by 2 guys (Alex & Kopie) who were not part of that outfit . They started pages for it on SourceForge. I believe it was around Version 6.0 that the "new" Subtitle WorkShop started. Here is a link I found on Digital Digest that lists a bunch of older versions. Note that if...
I could look at the source code of the UroSoft, if provided. It would help. The phrase "Urosoft versions" is ambiguous.
After your response, I took a closer look at what I was doing and I see that my initial report was slightly inaccurate...but still stands as such: The behavior occurs ONLY when the selected line is one that will be COMPLETELY REMOVED after Fix Errors is run. When that line is removed, you lose focus, so your next move (after clicking on OK in the Info &Errors box) is to select another line, which brings up the Exception. In the attached sub, this will apply to Lines 004, 036~046, etc. or any other...
I want to change the text "Invert colors" to "Dark mode" because "Invert colors" is confusing and people don't know what it does. "Dark mode" is a much more applicable and functional name. Please provide translation if possible.

Copying text with empty lines into subtitles can break the .vtt format
I just tried various scenarios with "Errors and settings" but I wasn't able to replicate the error. Please provide subtitle file and the line that gives problems. Does "Errors and settings" use stock settings? If not, please provide which settings that are altered that gives problem. At this moment, I can't work further without more details.
Thanks. I also have an OCR scripting question but I don't think it belongs in this section, so I will post it elsewhere.
I can only guess. I think it's simply a bug which the original programmer hasn't noticed before and you have discovered it. I don't think it is expected behavior but rather a unfortunate annoying bug. I'll try to fix it when I have time. If you could share a simple example (e.g. srt file or other) it could be helpful. And which line or text which causes the problem. And which part of "Information & Errors" causes the problem.

Many thanks for your help. I'll include this fix for 6.3.5.

Ah. I found the problem in your father's code. Because describing it in text would be too hard, I decided to make a video showing off what is wrong with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CAfBeFM9BE Here's my solution, please give me an executable to test it: (also, please include that documentation I made in the source files, pretty please. This took me ages to figure out...) //We need to replace each pair of CRLF line endings with a HTML break added between //them. The original code replaced...
Oh, I think I'm starting to get it. Gimme more time. :p
So I checked them out (I have downloaded the RAD studio, but still haven't gotten it working yet), and while I cannot fully see the original error in your father's code, I can see the fault in your coding. This is your father's code: Subtitles.Text[i] := StringReplace(Subtitles.Text[i], #$D#$A#$D#$A, #$D#$A + '<br>' + #$D#$A, [rfReplaceAll]); StringReplace seems to have four parameters (haven't checked its declaration, so this is a guess based on what it does for your father's code). The first parameter...
2025-02-23 (v6.3.4) Solved a problem open projects with diacritial symbols Project notes are also saved automatically now. Divided the layout of the Hunspell window in a number of fields. Hunspell: words with numbers in them and words with all capitals in them are not ignored anymore. Solved the 'None' audio stream problem,...
It's USubtitlesSave, I wrote with haste. This code I thinkered with is in the attachment. The original code is also included. Thank you for helping.
Looks like the sources I have from you are a bit out of date. There is USubtitlesRead, but there is no USubtitlesWrite. Looks like it is called USubtitlesSave instead. And it pretty much contains only the removal of tags for VTT, with a bunch of other stuff commented out. Unless I have overlooked something, which is quite possible - this is the first time I'm reading this syntax. But it is readable for me, so far. Could you send me your current source code files PLUS ideally the source codes from...

The code is in the file "USubtitlesRead" and "USubtitlesWrite" under SubtitleAPI_New. Each file has a vtt section.

Could you try the version attached? It should fix the problem. If it doesn't, please provide a sample what the end result should like. (e.g. with correct vtt example) Many thanks for trying to help by testing.
Tested it and it does it the other way around, which is wrong, unfortunately. There are now no HTML breaks <br>, and thus the file is now broken completely. It would be best to revert that change... unless we are actually close and it just needs to do it the other way around, i.e. adding HTML breaks onto empty lines between texts, where now only line breaks are.

Sorry for keeping you waiting. I will test it today once I get home from work. Which will be in several hours.
I would like to publish a new version if it is fixed. However, I can't help if empty lines are removed. I'm sorry about that, I can't fix that because I don't know how.
I'll try. I have no clue when, though.
It's very unlikely that your PC is capable of 4K. I think that what is happening is that it is displayed at a much lower resolution instead, i.e. it is 4K inside the file, but not on your screen. I found my fathers account. Everything looks look. Don't forget to read TechnicalDoc.txt, it explains how to install the 3rd party components for Delphi Embercadero. (such as Hunspell, Treeview, pascal scripts) I think the document is key when to compile Subtitle Workshop. Those have to be installed before you compile for the first time. Many thanks for your help. By the way, I think I can publish a new version of subtitle worshop.

Update VLC. I don't give support for VLC. Ask there.
Update VLC.
Unfortunately these configuration options: "ffmpeg -> check "Hurry up", "allow speed tricks", "Hardware decoding" (I have it unchecked), Theads (4 or more if you have cores)", do not exist in my vlc. So I can't test these tips.
Summary, not Summany. I'm very tired today.
Add a link to the backup GIT-based repo in the summary on SourceForge
I am not. Thankfully, this is not a very common problem to have. If you need help with anything, just ask.
I need some time to fix to problem. Don't expect a solution soon.
I just tried the test version you have provided and it didn't work. The issue persists. Upon loading the subtitles, surplus line endings were removed (maybe even more than should be - where there were three empty lines with two breaks and one standalone faulty line ending there is now only one break - it should be two, I think.) - I do not know if that was the case with the normal non-test version of SWC as well. In any case, pasting the text from the clipboard caused the issue again, as can be seen...
Copying it there again still causes the issue yet again, so now I have something I can probably test your new version with. Fingers crossed!
Ahah! The test2 after copy-pasting that line of code there caused a faulty line ending where a HTML break should be instead! Fuck, due to the STUPID spambot protection, the previous post lost the attachments. Why does Source Forge suck so much?! I no longer have the original file! I just modified it! ARGH.
THAT STUPID SPAMBOT PROTECTION DETELED ME MESSAGE. I HATE SOURCE FORGE. Let's put EVERYTHING into a codeblock, then. So I finally tested it and it took me AGES to duplicate the issue. 99% of the time, it seems to act correctly. I'm still flabbergasted as to why it is causing it, though. Anyway, I now seem to have a text on my clipboard that causes the issue if pasted after some other text in a subtitle: Tralala (test origo after empty line)Tralala (test origo after empty line) Looks like in this...
Not yet, but hopefully, I'll do so soon. I'll have to try duplicating it first to see how it actually comes to be. The weather went insane this week. Because the company considers home office to be used as a reward / special case only, unfortunately, it was a very exhausting week. I do have a driver's license, but no car. Here's to hoping that one day, driving on a bicycle on a sheet of ice becomes a part of the Olympics. That's a gold medal I could very well get! 👀
By any chance, any testing with the executable in this ticket?
I investigated further. There are somethings that speed up VLC in some cases. In advanced preferences: Input/codecs -> under video codecs -> ffmpeg -> check "Hurry up", "allow speed tricks", "Hardware decoding" (I have it unchecked), Theads (4 or more if you have cores) There might be many more tricks you could try. I don't consider this a problem of subtitle workshop but a hardware problem in combination with codec or VLC settings. I recommend you contact VLC for further help.

Are you sure about adding <'br'>? I haven't found any <'br'> (without the quotes) in any the vtt files I examined from you. Except the faulty one, in the lines you mentioned in this ticket. That is because there shouldn't be any more other than those provided in the example - I am trying to not have empty lines in my subtitles, but there are specific exceptions. Those parts I have provided as an example are such an exception - at that point, I am talking AND there is a text on-screen in the same...

I had to put most of the text into a code block, otherwise I was unable to post it, because sourceforge is dumb.
I'll try replicating it later, as for the null pointer... The access violation is a bit of a misnomer. Nullpointer means something tried to access/modify a null value/object. A null or nil value / object / data in memory is an absence of anything. I usually explain it by comparing it to zero. Zero is a numeric value. If you try to add or subtract another number to it, it works. If you try to numerically add or subtract something to/from a null value, stuff explodes (but it depends on the programming...
Perfect, good work! Seems to be working. I tried it with "č" in both subtitle files and the video file, then I saved the project, checked the project file if it indeed got saved properly, it did, so I closed the workshop, started it up again, loaded the project, and voilá!
Copying text with empty lines into subtitles can break the .vtt format
My first fix, should work to open projects with diacritical symbols.
I don't know how to solve a Access violation (nullpointer). It is important to replicate the error and which actions exactly have lead to it. Without replication, I can't pinpoint the exact cause and I can't find a solution.
Access violation (nullpointer) during drag&drop after a specific set of actions
I use version 2.51 for convenience and because I'm very familiar with it. I also installed version 6.0 to do all the tests suggested by you and on the internet and they all failed with 4k video. Therefore, since neither of them worked with 4k, I prefer to use version 2.51 which I'm very familiar with. P.S: O Subtitle Edit plays 4k video perfectly on my pc.

Yup, as a temporary workaround, I have renamed the subtitle files to be without those pesky diacritical symbols. Jako je to trošku problém, protože můj jazyk je běžně používá, ale co naplat. I may be able to create a backup GitLab repository (not hosted on my server and those arseholes already once deleted all of my files in another repository, without notifying me or telling me why, so this new repo will be BACKUP ONLY) during Monday, and then I could check it out to find the culprit reason, but...
I'll try to have a look at it. I'm not a programmer by profession. Don't expect a fix soon.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 Ghz is too slow for 4K. I can't help that. I have tried 64 VLC with that that processor but it didn't play well 4K with HDR or without. I'm not sure why it would play well on your system. I doubt if Subtitle Edit will help much, it also uses ffmpeg, just like VLC. I also tried the default renderer with subtitle workshop, it failed at 4K and HDR (so it uses installed codecs) I don't understand why you would use 2.51 instead of 6.0.
The videofile also fails to load from the project file if it contains symbols such as "č", "ě", "ř", etc., but loads fine if loaded directly. Same for subtitle files. It's only loading the subtitle/video files from the project file that fails.
Actually, I reverted to an older version of Subtitle Workshop and it appears that the project doesn't get loaded! Then I took a look at the recent list and it seems like I simply didn't have those specific diacritical symbols in my subtitle file names before, so this is actually a completely new issue, and the problem might have been there since times in memoriam, I just didn't encounter it yet. But I do recall having a similar issue with Jagged Alliance many months back. Hmm...
Even if I fix the paths to contain the correct file names inside the project file, it completely fails to load the project.
Project fails to load for version 6.3.4
My machine is just an AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 Ghz. I have installed VLC 32-bit and the 64-bit version. Playing the video directly in VLC 32-bit doesn't work: it keeps crashing, the audio and video lose synchronization, and the video appears pixelated. Directly in 64-bit it works perfectly. So that's why when I changed the renderer to "VLC" 32-bit, it didn't work in Subtitle Workshop. I don't have the financial means to build a PC like the one you mentioned, so I'll continue creating subtitles in...

The spirit of Delphi is that it independent of Microsoft. .Net in contrast is heavily dependent on microsoft and the integration of .net. I like independency very much or at least as much as possible.
Don't worry, I do realize it isn't as easy like that (I mean if it was a .NET framework application, it may have been, but even then the GUI would have to be rewritten), as it is literally my job to know that. I also encountered troubles with 64-bit and 32-bit libraries, plus the architecture (x86, aarch64, etc.) has to check out too. If there is hope, it would be that a) creating 32-bit applications is still supported and b) the GUI available in those Linux-based Delphi things has drop-in replacements...
