#103 dummy patch fails terribly?

note: this patch should not do anything which
affects the build, i.e. it only creates a file
called 'dummy' containing a single line ...

nevertheless, most regression tests seem to
fail with quite a number of errors ... note that
the host compiling them says that there is no
gcc used for compiling :)
